Throttle Control Assembly

Wanted a NOS or good used Throttle Control Assembly for my 1949 44 Standard.  This part number 761-256-M91 is the cable control running from the base of the steering column to the governor control lever.  This is a cable system to give the operator infinate control of the speed of the engine.   My 44 is serial number GS-6925 and has the throttle control at the top of steering column along with the choke control.  Action by the throttle lever is transfered to the Throttle Control Cable and on to the Govenor lever.  The issue I have is mine is wore out and dosen't work.  When I removed it I discovered that it is a homemade part.  While it worked poorly the spec's for it are unknown.  If I'm not able to find a new on then the next step would be to find a wornout one that is still a factory pure so I can copy it for a replacement on my tractor.  Please contact me if you have anything to help me get my 44 back into service.

Thanks for your assistance,

RE:Throttle Control Assembly

Mike, Please explain the "cable" you refer to. I guess I've never seen one using a cable rather than a stiff rod to the front. Thanks, Jerry

RE:Throttle Control Assembly

Jerry, the early 44s and 30s had system that uses a rod and lever to transfer the throttle movement along the steering column.  At the base of the steering column the movement is transfered to a cable system that produces movement to send the desired RPM to the governor control lever.  The govenor responds to the operators movement slower or faster.
The method you are aware of with is a throttle control between the knees of the operator that works a rod back and forth to respond to the operators desired RPM.  This method was used on all tractors prior to Serial number 44GS8161 which looks to be late 1949.  Mine was built in early 1949.  I would have perferred the rod system--the cards just didn't fall right??

It is interesting I have a 1948 MH30 row crop and the cable system works fantastic on it no issues at all.

I hope this answers your question??
