Wanted-Tach Drive Generator for 333

I found a "tach drive assembly" on Steiner's web site for a MF 50.  It looks like the one in my parts book for the 333.  Not sure if it's the same thing.  I don't know exactly how these assemblies actually mate to the generator.  The end of the armature on my generator has a slot in it.  Anybody know how these things fit together, and whether or not the assembly on Steiner's site will work on my tractor?

Thanks, Glenn

RE:Wanted-Tach Drive Generator for 333

Hi Glen,
I had the same problem with my 333. I don't think the tach drives from Steiner's are long enough so I had one made up. There is a flat on the end of the tach drive that goes into the back of the generator. It just pushes in if I remember correctly. Inside the box on the back of the generator are two gears but you don't have to take this off to fit the drive.
I live in the UK so the company who made the tach drive up for me won't be much use to you I guess but you must have companies in the States who can do this.
Hope you get it fixed ok.
Alan

RE:Wanted-Tach Drive Generator for 333

Hello Alan:  My issue is that I don't have the tach drive assembly on my generator, so there's nothing into which to insert the end of the tach drive cable.  And my generator will not accept the drive assembly.  So.....this generator is useless for driving the tach drive.  It charges the battery just fine, but can do little else.  I need the correct generator AND the "tach drive assembly", something not easy to find.  Indeed, the correct one was robbed off my tractor many owners ago.

Thanks for response, Alan.  By the way, what do you do these days with your triple 3?

Glenn

RE:Wanted-Tach Drive Generator for 333

Hi Glenn,
Sorry I misunderstood what you were looking for.
I take my 333 (which is a Row Crop ) to shows and on road runs. Last year I did a bit of plowing with it with a M-H #26 plow which was fun. What do you do with your tractor?
Hope you find the part that you are looking for.

RE:Wanted-Tach Drive Generator for 333

Hey Alan,   I don't have any implements.  I do about the same as you....I just took the tractor to the Florida Flywheelers show in Ft Meade, Florida.  I also placed an ad on Yesterday's Tractor, and a fellow already called me about the generator!  He also has a belt pulley that I may also buy.

RE:Wanted-Tach Drive Generator for 333

Hi Glenn
Glad to hear that you are getting sorted out with the parts that you need.
I have seen the Florida Flywheelers Show advertised in a magazine. I guess it must be quite nice down there this time of the year.
Best Wishes

RE:Wanted-Tach Drive Generator for 333

Since I started this post, I have taken a closer look at my generator and discovered that there was a "plug" screwed into the end of the armature.  I removed the generator from the tractor once I got it on my work bench was able to loosen the plug and remove it with a flat head screwdriver.  A gentleman from Kansas ansered my ad on YT and is sending me a tach drive assembly.  The saga is about over.  I've learned a lot, and communicated with many great folks in my quest.  Soon, my tractor meter will be spinning once again to the pulse of the diesel engine in my beautiful Massey.

Hi Glenn
Glad to hear that you are getting sorted out with the parts that you want for your tractor. When you get it running why don't you put some pictures of it on the website.
Interesting to hear that your tractor is diesel. I wish mine was but it's gas

RE:Wanted-Tach Drive Generator for 333

glenn, the tach drives will work but the tooth count is wrong, the originals are hard to find.  mine is wrong but it still makes the tach work, just the wrong rpm.  the drive gear threads into the back of the gen.  if the you find the right tooth count you've done better than I.  i'm still looking.

RE:Wanted-Tach Drive Generator for 333

Well, I thought I just about had this licked, but the tach drive that showed up from Kansas had the wrong tooth count.  The larger (driven) gear should have 45 teeth to be accurate, according to Lloyd (Bub) Robbins.   So, I'm still looking.
