RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Steve, I have had a look on the map, I am still nearly twice as far away as you are, so if you don`t already own a U frame or a GP now is your oopportunity.

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Here is some picture of our slow winter progress on the MH 12-20. when the snow starts to melt a little bit more will get done.

The first shows the frame with the rebushed front end and is ready to rivet the front axle support back on, and the second is the orchard pto shield Ervin came up with for our tractors.

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Tom,

I don't see aslot in the PTO shield for the seat spring to project in to????  I think I did show it on the diagrams I sent.  As it is I am sure it will foul the spring????

John

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Hi john, this PTO shield is for the orchard. So it won't need the slot in it.

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Malcolm, I was very interested to hear about the unstyled Masseys that have been red from new, I always thought they had been repainted at sometime. Do you know the numbers of any of the red 12-20s? I was wondering if they were late numbers because I am thinking maybe they tried the red colour at the end of the 12-20s and the start of the Pacemaker and then switched back to green until the styled 25, Pacemaker and Challenger came out. Do you know of any more unstyled Pacemakers and Challengers that have been red from new and if so are they early ones?

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

This a 1936 unstyled Pacemaker orchard owned by Larry Maasdam of Clarion, Iowa and restored by Dick Carroll, I think , if I remember correctly. They painted it red because they could not find any green paint when restoring it. Sorry I do not know the serial number.

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Graham,

Regarding the M-H 12-20's originally painted red here in UK, there is one surviving and now restored tractor in Shropshire where it worked all it's life, the serial number is 103092, I had the remains of another from Cambrdigeshire many years ago, the "U" frame is still in the back of my shed and it was only ever painted red, so far I have not found the serial number stamped in the frame and the plate was long gone.

There is one unstyled original import Pacemaker which has been through three collectors hands and two Cheffins sale's in the last 20 years or so and it has always been painted red, serial number 107343.

Then we know about Dale's unstyled Pacemaker No 107110, discussed earlier in this thread. With regard to the front wheel part numbers you refered to being different on the early ones Dale has confirmed the part number on his flat spoke front wheels is HA 593

Thanks Wayne for the photo of Larry Maasdam's unstyled red Orchard Pacemaker, I have heard of this tractor but never seen it in the flesh yet,  I have more to follow soon on the Orchards and Vineyards.

Malcolm.

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Now to the Orchard and Vineyard unstyled Pacemaker.

Only a few weeks ago I bought this foldout brochure from down in Cornwall, right in the south of England. It is the usual M-H style small foldout brochure and one which I have never come across before with detailing and specifications for both Orchard and Vineyard "Streamlined  Performance and Economy" Pacemakers.

I will seperate the two on different posts, so here is the front cover and details of the OPA.

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Here is part of the same brochure detailing the Vineyard unstyled Pacemaker.

No sign of the engine side screens or top steering wheel cover like we saw on the unstyled VPA at the Dome Valley auction, but it clearly shows the narrower width of tractor.

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Now we have looked at this brochure I am surprised no one has posted a photograph of a very recent restoration of one of these Orchard Pacemaker  tractors, this was Dennis Brown's contribution to the National Show in Baraboo last year, not so sure about the driver!! maybe he was lost being a long way from home.
