RE:Massey Harris Implements.

Malcolm

Thank you for your advise on the colour for the mower.

Next project! Either a 44D or a M-H Dickie Side Rake or a M-H Manure Spreader.

Alan

RE:Massey Harris Implements.

I have been doing some more research on Massey plows lately mostly trying to figure out all of the different tractor plows that Massey offered. In my search there is a couple I have never heard of before and several I have never seen existing. If anybody out there can help me out in identifying more models of plows or the differences in some off head that would be great.

Here's my list so far
MH power lift tractor plow (chain lift plow 1918-1930, updated from #5 horse drawn gang plow) probable affiliation with Grand Detour on the design.

MH power lift tractor vineyard plow

MH orchard special tractor plow

#3  2-3 bottom, JI Case plow works design

#4. 3-4 bottom, JI Case plow works design.

#5  2 bottom, looks like a cheape version of #3

#6A  2-3 bottom, advertised as heavy duty "western" plow

#9A #9B  2-3 bottoms. Two clearly different plows between the A and B.

#18A  4 bottom plow. Very similar to #6 with very little information to be found so far.

#19  2-4 bottom also similar to #18 and #6.

#21  I have no info on this besides a listing in the 1941 handy catalogue for replacement shares.

#23  also no info like the #21

#25  same as the last two no information right now

#26 2-3 bottom adjustable width.

#27  2 bottom

#28  2-5 bottom made from 1941-1958

#90 2 bottom light duty, sometimes advertised as a fordson plow.

#4 grub breaker plow, heavy duty 1 bottom breaking plow.

I have not written down the numbers for all the mounted and semi mounted plows yet so I am consentrating on the pull type tractor plows.

RE:Massey Harris Implements.

Tom Am I right in thinking Wiard and Verity made plows for M-H. I've come across the links in my research on wrenches. But what a great list to have. M-H Plows. Alan

RE:Massey Harris Implements.

Yes Waird and Verity made plows for massey to sell. Mostly walking and horse plows. There were a few tractor drawn plows. I want to figure out all of the massey built tractor plows then I will look into the rest of the tractor plows. If we had to figure out all the horse plows that would take us decades!

In my search through parts books I have found many many wrenches. I will assemble a list for you if you are still looking.

RE:Massey Harris Implements.

Tom If you could make a list of wrenches out of your parts books that would be great. I hope to have the list finished early next year. It would have been done but I have had problems with my computer. Thanks Alan

RE:Massey Harris Implements.

The #21 plow was the predecessor to the #28 plow.  The tail wheel and bottoms are the same .  only difference is the #28 introduced a new "constant clearance" lift. It incorporates the slide bar that had the lubricated boot on the #28.  The #21 didn't have this.  The #21 was only built for a couple years 1937- 1939. The #28 was introduced in late 1939.

Wiard plows were sold by Massey Harris from their Batavia works for a couple years.  The Wiard factory was across the street from the Massey Batavia factory so I think it was just a conveniance deal like the worthington engines.  Wiard never had any other Massey connection and went bankrupt in 1954.
Verity was purchased by Massey Harris in the 1890's and was the maion Massey plow factory for decades.  The walking plows probably number in the hundreds as to the different models over the years.  Most of the tractor plows other than the Ji Case plow Works plow and Pulverator Plow were all built at the Verity Works.

RE:Massey Harris Implements.

Thanks for the info on the #21 plow Keith, the #21 sounds a lot like the #9B plow too. That has the same type tail wheel and no curved slide bar.

I have finally got around to working on some of my stuff so here are two pictures of the hitch and tail wheel lift for my #3 two bottom massey plow. This plow was a real jem when I got it so there is lots of work to do. The tail wheel arm was brazed up and re machined for the 3/4" rod. The hitch irons are new as the old ones were cut down and really tough.

RE:Massey Harris Implements.

Good to see a comprehensive listing of M-H ploughs coming to life Tom, they can be as confusing as some of the tractor models at times, so keep working your way through and up dating the list for everyones benefit. Hope you add to Alan's wrench list along the way.

Canada is the place for Massey implements still surviving in large quantities, recently whilst browsing the flea market at the Ilderton Show in Ontario I came across these niceely restored M-H horse drawn hay kicker and early corn cultivator, they were both reasonably priced at $475.

RE:Massey Harris Implements.

Also seen on display at the Ilderton Ontario show in July was this nice original M-H running gear, it's very enthusiastic owner assured me it was a gear used for carrying fruit from the orchards on a fruit farm in Ontario, the wheels are much smaller in diameter than the general farm gear I have here and others seen in preservation, so guess it made it easier for lifting the boxes or baskets onto the wagon.

Anyone know of any more or seen these in any literature?

Malcolm
