RE:Massey mens' food!

Looks pretty cool but a trained eye would notice that they did not have Harvestor Silos back in 1936  also they surely did not have large farmers driving tractors. Most old pictures I have seen the farmer was arround 110-150 lbs.

RE:Massey mens' food!

Joe,

I am very pleased to be able to report that I have now found that in the UK we have several small, mostly farm based, producers of JERSEY CHEESE.  I think that I can obtain some by post for your next visit.

Please state your preference - apparently semi hard and soft varieties are available.

I also found on the net that someone makes it on your side of the pond down in Colorado

Cheese would add to your offerings of cream from the MASSEY BICYCLE round!

There's is a Jersey dairy in Geenville, IL. That makes artisinal cheese. Web search
Marcoot Jersey Creamery, Greenville, IL.
You can order some and be able to do a comparision to the Jersey cheese across the pond the next time you're there.

Joe,

I'm glad you remembered (on the John Burge thread) the trout and dessert that John served to us when we visited along with Steve M.  Never a better cooked trout??!!  We always yearned for his Madiera cake whenever we called.  I think that he must have baked one a day as he always, like a magician, would pull one either directly from the oven or from the cupboard.

So Ferguson men were well into food too!

RE:Massey mens' food!

During the past few weeks I have not had much computer time at my desk, catching up with a few threads this morning pleases me to see "The Massey Men" are keeping up with "one of their favourite passions in life" eating and enjoying good quality Massey produced food.

Just to put another angle on this "high priority topic" for all Massey Collectors visiting Canada on business or pleasure, you must plan a trip to the small town of Newcastle, Ontario where the Massey roots were firmly laid by the Massey family and still very evident today with some of their legacy they left behind.
Between the old Massey factory and the Community Hall on Main Street is just the most wonderful place to eat called "The Massey House Restaurant" all Massey Collectors get such a warm welcome from owners Gus and Karen who love to talk about all things Massey and show off their display of Massey Memorabilia, both John and I have been regular visitors since 1998 and can assure you all he "loves his Massey food in The Massey Restaurant" cooked in true Massey style by Gus and Karen.

I am sure he is counting down the days now in readiness for The National Show in Paisley Ontario in 2013, I can assure you all high on his itinerary will be another trip to Newcastle.

Malcolm.

RE:Massey mens' food!

Joe,

Great to see a Challenger doing the job it was designed to do almost 76 years later, I wonder if the modern rubber tracked Challenger's will be running in 70 years time??
Well done and your spring weather looks to of been much better than ours this year.

RE:Massey mens' food!

Malcolm,

Good to be reminded of the Newcastle, Ontario Massey restaurant.  We have had a few good meals - of considerable substance - in there with our Massey firends in Canada.

The latest I have heard is that the establishment is so succesful that they have recently extended back to provide for another 40 or so places.  The proof of the "PUDDING" as they say is definitely in the eating!

Tremendous atmosphere to the place what with the original Massey factory still standing almost next door, the nearby residence of Daniel Massey, the Massey Hall and of course in nearby Bowmansville the Massey family graves

Can't wait to get back in there next year when we do Paisley!

Wow! That Massey Restaurant sounds like a great place we should book a Massey Banquet there sometime.

Along with the many Birthday cards I got in the mail lately I recieved a Post Card from the UK's newest Promotions and Marketing Committee Chair. It looks like a great place to visit!! I think he should get a raise in pay as he is reaching out to newer clientele promoting outside the country.

I also think the MCA should give John some kind of an award as he was the first one on here to hit "100" in the Top Contributors list Congratulations John!!

Thanks,
Joe

RE:Massey mens' food!

Joe,

Glad the post card got through without US hygiene regulations interference!

Thanks for the congratulations on pulling up the 100 - hadn't realised.  Must celebrate with some strawberries and JERSEY cream this afternoon!! Just doing my bit and hoping we can drag ever more Massey Folks on board for a bit of chat and banter.  Just wish we could engage those thousands out there beyond the MCA membership who are clearly watching us with interest but not able to reply.

The Massey restaurant sure is a relaxing and thoughtful place but probably not large enough for a Massey banquet but ideal for smaller group visits.  Sitting more or less next to that 150+years old factory is quite something.  Although now old folks apartments and shops on the ground floor all the external features have been so well preserved including the Massey lettering on the walls.  True nostalgia!

Keep thinking ----- and doing------and eating!!!!

John
