RE:Massey mens' food!

Joe,

Good to hear that you are now safely back from China.  If you are now recovered from the jet lag can you enlighten us on what delicacies of Chinese food might suit the Massey fraternity taste buds and waist lines?

Find anything MH over there?

John

John:

The one thing and probebly the only thing great about the Chineese food is you will definatly loose weight if you are there long!! I lost 12 pounds in the short time I was there and I was very couragous in trying just about everything they put in front of me, but there were some things that I could not hardly bear to even look at much less smell. Most of the meals we had were 20 to 30 course meals with such things as: raw frog, duck head, clams, shrimp, squid, tofu, rabit head, eal, fish intestines, crab, farm soil, dragon's eye,Sea slugs, these are just a couple that I can remember. I have eaten stuff here that I can not even pronounce and have not ever even heard of before,  some was not too bad but some was just not even good to look at. You would be proud of me for at least trying some of it, but some I just couldn't stomach.

Absolutly no cheese or milk products in the country, and definatly no Jersey Cream!!! The closest thing we seen as far as milk was Soy milk made from Soy Beans, I would rather take a swig of Diesel fuel than that stuff.

I did master the use of the chopsticks!!! And learned that you never challenge a Chineese  man to drinking as you will never win, even the young women, have a high tollerence for drinking.

I am very sure from the time we got there til when we left, the city of Quzhou spent well over one million US dollars on the 12 countries that they hosted there just in food alone, not to mention all the cost of the motels, private drivers, foot massages, private doctors and all the government employies and Camera people they had running along side of us  they provided for all of us. It was really great but I would have traded any of them high dollar meals for simple meal at Mc Donalds or Burger King or a fresh loaf of glooten free Speltz bread.

Here is a picture of one of the Sea slugs that I just couldn't jab my chop sticks into or hardly bear to look, and I was not the only one to pass this one up!!!

I did not see one single tractor on the whole trip!! once in a while you would see an excavator or end loader but no tractors. Many people in the ffields doing everything by hand Cutting crops with a machette and standing it up to dry buy no mechonised equipment to speak of.

Not a good place to go to for Massey Mens Food!!!

RE:Massey mens' food!

I knew there was a reason why I have never been to China - now I know!!  I guess if you are looking to diet that would be a "first stop" .  Thanks for sharing the delicious looking meals!!

RE:Massey mens' food!

Good to hear of your experience in China Joe, I almost had to look twice to see if that was really you in the photo!!  no red and yellow Massey shirt and several pounds of weight lost in a few days.

Well just  for everyone to see here is a photograph of your "huge" tomato's from your front garden in September, I could not beleive the size of plant and fruit ,you must of put some good manure under that plant, or have some magic touch with your green fingers.

The strawberries and cream for desert were well received too, thanks to you both for a great visit again.

RE:Massey mens' food!

On returning from holiday I went round the tractor sheds checking things out.  A lovely surprise was awaiting me under the M-H 20 tractor.  A super clump of mushrooms had grown up whilst we were away.  So there's the supplement to tomorrow morning's egg and bacon breakfast!

So the motto of the story is don't concrete your shed floors but leave it all to
Mother nature

OOOPS - sorry - photo delayed as the file is too big - again!!!!

Monday - photo now attached - enlarge to see the mushrooms now digested with this morning's breakfast!

RE:Massey mens' food!

No one seems to be discussing "Massey Food" these days, which surprises me as this winter seems to be throwing some cold temperatures for many of us and usually that makes me eat more!!

Whilst looking through piles of old photographs recently to keep the styled 25 thread alive I came across the attached photograph of the wonderful 150th Anniversary cake at the Banquet in Racine of September 1997, it seems a long time ago now and from memory it was a wonderful cake, then they auctioned off the toys from the top of the cake, hope they are still cared for in someones toy collection?

Anyway the question today is when are we going to have another cake baked for a special Massey Event?? could just eat some right now with my morning coffee.

RE:Massey mens' food!

Malcolm,

You can't be hungry already after that huge meal that you ate at the Starting Handle Club Dinner a few evenings ago !!!!

Just to make you more hungry here is a picture of a cake that Doreen had baked for me. She took the M-H motif that you gave me to the cake maker and said I want a cake baked like this. I think she made a good job of it.

Sorry it's all been eaten !!!!!!!!

RE:Massey mens' food!

Alan,

It's wonderful to be getting back on to the topic of food in this present cold  and snowy weather!

That's a magnificent cake!  I've just shown it to Moira and apparently I am now scheduled in to have a similar one for my 70th birthday.  However in the meantime if Doreen could arrange for two for myself and Malcolm in the very near future we would be more than appreciative.  Malcolm could bring them across on his next visit to the  M-H Western Branch and we could have it after our routine hot Indian curry which is a feature of our Massey meets over here.  The hot currys produce a facial complexion not far removed from Massey red!

Well done Doreen

RE:Massey mens' food!

While you Guys are getting excited about deserts I thought you should take a look at this.

All it proves is the best Massey Food is in the East of England.

Come on Bob, you can figure out how to use this web site.  I promise we won't make you buy any tractors over the internet!!!
