RE:Massey mens' food!

Thanks Alan and John,

We had a superb "UK MCA Gathering" at noon on Saturday at The Newby Hall Rally whilst most other MCA members were down in Illinois, we just had to put on a little something to show willing and fly the MCA flag from this side of the pond, so Alan yes you got it about right, I was forward planning the lunch venue in the restaurant when you found my hat, unfortunately I did not get anywhere near the beer tent. The food was great and the strawberries and cream just put the "icing on the cake", even the additional cream was well received for our family strawberry tea in Ripon.

Here's to the next strawberry and cream gathering, which we hope is Paisley Ontario in August, all three of us will be there so that's the time to sample the fruit and cream from the other side of the pond and keep the tradition going
Hope the berry crops are looking good in Ontario this season????????

Malcolm.

RE:Massey mens' food!

Boy - you guys really know how to get to us don't you.  All of you standing, smiling and holding your own personal cup of Jersey cream!!!  Probably the best we will be able to do in Paisley is some strawberry ice cream!!  I know we can not get the Jersey cream here because I tried about five different vendors in the UK and have searched high and low for anything comparable!!

The best we might do is have Joe whip up a batch.  I will say he made some that was very close last summer!!

Maybe you guys will just have to put some on ice, hide it in your suitcase and bring it in!!

It sure looked good.

And then to take a nap under the shade tree hidden behind the GP.  I wish I had time for a nap at a show and then to have no one bother me while I doze!!  That would be great!  Come on John, there are tractors to see and memorabilia to buy!!

RE:Massey mens' food!

Gary,

There was method in my madness.  The nap was taken towards the end of the day when I had been round everything and had in fact bought a bit of cast iron memorabilia and a spanner for Alan's collection.   Malcolm's tractor sheet came in handy as the ground was still a bit damp.  But there was more than a simple snooze requirement - I am suffering from a bad heel - Plantar fasciitiis - and I was about done!  Also I was awaiting Moira coming back from her exploaration of the fabulous Newby Hall 30 acre garden site.

Just to put the fabulous and majestic nature of Newby Hall, its grounds and its gardens into context, it was a reserve home for our Royal family should the need have arisen for them to be evacuated from London in the war.

As for these continued lame excuses about having no Jersey double cream over there - buy a Jersey Cow - stop obsessing with Ponys!!!!

John

The Eastern and Western UK Massey Collectors are well known for their quality and quantity of  "Massey Men's Food", here is the evidence of the first course, before we even got to the strawberries and cream.

RE:Massey mens' food!

We are fast approaching the Massey Expo in Paisley Ontario now, I hope the summer sunshine in Eastern Canada is ripening the berries and fruit crops in readiness for our traditional feast at these special events, I hope our Canadian MCA followers of this thread are tending the crop in readiness for a good harvest before our arrival.

I know Alan Harris is well ready for MORE strawberries and cream during his stay in Ontario, with having such hot weather here in the UK these past few weeks we have been living on fresh fruit and cream, so hope the Canadian supply is almost ready.

Malcolm

My mouth is already watering with the thought of those big red juicey Canadian strawberries and the Jersey Cream plus those triple A steaks.
Like you say the weather here has started to get us aclimatised to the hot Canadian weather.
Really looking forward to Paisley and George and Barb Smyth Sale.

Alan

RE:Massey mens' food!

Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to go to Paisley Show. Other wise I could bring some of my fresh home grown peaches and blackberries to go with the cream.

RE:Massey mens' food!

Steve,

What a pity that great offer is not to be!

Malcolm and I will have a short spell in the middle of Toronto so will seek out the goods in the supermarkets there.  The tricky thing is the Jersey double cream and not the strawberries.  It's almost as if Jersey cows are extinct in N America.  I would carry some with me except that the rural hygiene men at the Cnadian and US customs are over sensitive about imported diary products!!

John
There is a Jersey Dairy farm about a 2 hour drive from where I live, One of the few remaining. Like you, I would have trouble getting it accross the border. Seems like all the small dairy farms are disappearing with the huge dairy farm taking over. Mom & Dad had Jersey's when I was growing up.

RE:Massey mens' food!

Good to hear The Massey Men's Food discussion continues, I must say whilst I have been down in Texas the homemade strawberry ice cream I found in a local grocery store was superb, there was plenty of real strawberry chunks in it, I must say with the temperatures over 100 f each day I enjoyed my visit to the grocery store for a daily fix.
Now waiting in Toronto airport for John to arrive, I must say the weather is beautiful here with temperatures more like home.
Sorry you are not going to make it to Paisley Steve, if we do find strawberries we will have one for you.
Looking forward to a good Expo.

Malcolm
