RE:MASSEY SEATS

Here is another Australian H V McKay seat that I have discovered in a friend's collection.  Notice that unlike the others that I have listed it says Sunshine Machinery.  I need one!!

RE:MASSEY SEATS

To keep the seat thread moving forward here is my S572, with it's original patina it almost looks like a leather bicycle seat, until you pick it up and feel the weight.

RE:MASSEY SEATS

What implement would that seat have been fitted to Malcolm? Nice lot of wrenches in the back ground

RE:MASSEY SEATS

Alan,

I have been told they were fitted to the horse poles on the large header combine harvesters pulled by a team of approx 26 mules out in the Western States and Canada. The seat mounting bracket cast into the bottom is curved so guess it bolted to the side of the pole. I would like to see one in action sometime.

Malcolm.

RE:MASSEY SEATS

Malcolm,

Yes it would be good to see one in action but I'm not volunteering to be the driver !!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps we could get Bob to buy one of those combines and twenty six mules and cut some wheat with it at Marsham next year. That would be good.

RE:MASSEY SEATS

Yesterday whilst talking about 1997 and the 150th Anniversary of Massey in another thread I remembered a small reproduction of  the "Massey Toronto" cast iron seat being produced by Spec Cast if memory serves me correct, so it was time to find one and post it on here.
I am pretty sure the two I have were purchased at the 150th Anniversary Show in Milton Ontario, July 1997. They are marked 1847 - 1997 on the back.

The two I have are both red, does anyone have a yellow one?

Malcolm.

RE:MASSEY SEATS

Hi Malcolm,

Both of the ones I have are red.  Did they make a yellow one?

I guess it would not be too hard to make one yellow!!  What did I do with that paint?  LOL!!

RE:MASSEY SEATS

I am not sure Gary if there was yellow ones available, the memory is not as good as it used to be, but thought we would hear on here if there are yellow ones out there.

For today here are some more minature Massey Harris seats in both red and yellow and made as pins, I think these were Teeswater?

All the Best

Malcolm.

RE:MASSEY SEATS

In keeping with this thread, I thought you might be interested in this. This past July our family of about 20 from Wisc., Calif., Ariz., Ida., and B.C. went to Calgary, Alta. to celebrate my aunt's 90th. birthday.  While there playing tourists, we visited what they call The Grain Academy. It's a museum type exhibit all about the Canadian grain industry. Very interesting, even all my city relatives were fascinated.
Anyway before you tour, they show a 10 minute video explaining the exhibit of which you sit on nicely painted implement seats. All the seats are generic no-name  EXCEPT the one in the middle which said Massey-Harris. I thought that was kind of neat. (I hope the pictures come through. I've never done it before)

RE:MASSEY SEATS

Good eye, Terry!!  It is interesting they would use just one labeled seat!  It looks to be a very interesting museum and theatre!! It also looks like some are old and some are reproduction seats as well.   I think I might take the softer seats in the back of the room, however.

Thanks for sharing. We might have to stop at the museum when I get into the north country!!
