Massey-Harris Wrenches

I am making a list of M-H wrenches together with M-H associated companies ie Verity, Wiard Plow Co,Johnson Harvester Co etc. What I would like to do is make a list of part numbers together with the machines that they were supplied with. Any help would be appreciated.

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Hi Alan,

Glad to see you got things worked out to get on the web site!!

Folks - Alan is being a little modest about his wrench venture.  He has an extensive list already created and hopes to put it in a user friendly format so you all can have a reference guide to the wrenches related to Massey items.  Most of them he has cross-referenced with the implement they came with and work on.  Over 200 wrenches and counting.  Many with pictures.

If you have Massey related tools and wrenches please check with Alan.  Send him a pic of the wrench and how you found it.  If you know someone you collects them let him know as well!!

This will be a great reference guide for us all when it is completed.  Lots of work and time before anyone will see it but your help will be appreciated.

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Did The Massey Manufacturing Co. or A. Harris, Son & Co Ltd., ever produce wrenches of their own before the merger? If so has anyone got any examples? I would be really interested to know.
Thanks
Alan

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

P.T.Rathbone of Marsing Idaho USA has printed 2 large books on wrench collecting. The History of Farm Implement Companies and the Wrenchs they issued Volume 1 and 2. They both have a lot of  Massey, Wiard Plow, Johnston Harvestor, Wallis and JI Case plow wrenches. The web site is www.rluckystarranch.com. This may be of some help to you.

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Hi Wayne,
Thanks for the info. I have Vol 1 but not Vol 2. Do you know how much different Vol 2 is from Vol1 ?
Alan

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

There are quite a few Massey wrenches shown in Volume 2. Some are different and some are varriations of wrenches shown in Volume 1. Also shown are 3 Wiard Plow wrenches, 1 JICase plow wrench, some Wallis wrenches and some Johnson Harvestor wrenches.
Volume 2 is over 300 pages so it has quite a bit of info.

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Hi Wayne,
Thank you very much for the info.I got onto the website you told me about and then email the Guy. He told me I can buy Volume 2 over here in the UK cheaper than getting it from the USAbecause of the postage. So by what you are telling me about what it contains I had better bite the bullet and buy it. I already have Volume 1.
Thanks again
Alan

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Alan,

Here is a M-H plough (plow) wrench which I was going to post last year on your excellent wrench thread on the old website, unfortuneatley this was the one which never made it so hope it works now!

It came new in 1934 with my dad's new M-H No23 plough and 12-20 tractor from local agents Ward and Co of Horncastle Lincolnshire. The part numbers are not readable but definately starts with PE and it fits the large nut which holds the lift mechanism hub into the left steel wheel, which is the large nut behind the hub cap on the land wheel.
I am sure you will have found and listed this one.

Malcolm.
