1947 Massey Harris

Last Friday I picked up my new purchase. It is just a 44 Massey but it is quite unique since it is a very early serial number ( #1124 ). I have seen this tractor many times and thought about buying it several times but it is in terrible condition. A few weeks ago I was at the salvage yard and they were talking about scrapping some tractors that were not profitable any more so I knew it was time to finally buy it. The 1947 Massey's have always been interesting to me so I thought some of you guys would like to see this wreck and maybe others have interesting  1947 Massey's alsothat I would really like to see. Are there many other early 44's out there?

RE:1947 Massey Harris

Since this is an early 44 there are several differences whencompared with the later tractors. Tom Tague had all the information about the early parts that should be present on my tractor. Tom Has one just 17 numbers older than mine.
These used the 101 style axle housings and fender mounting, brass throttle quadrant, modified 101 SR shifter with aluminum tags for shift pattern, different frame casting, engine bell housing, and I think there is a few other little changes.

Here is some of the casting dates I found on my tractor. First is the engine block, second is the head casting date and last is the transmission.

RE:1947 Massey Harris

This is another fairly early 44 this one is #1343. I might have to go buy this one to have some more parts for #1124.

RE:1947 Massey Harris

That's a very nice original 44 you have there John. Wish mine looked like that! If you ever want to sell let me know. I like originals over restored any day.

Just curious does your have the brass throttle quadrant, and the aluminum tags for the shift pattern?

RE:1947 Massey Harris

I am going to try to post some more pictures of the early 44s.  If this works then the pictures are of what I call the double dimple in the frame where the bellhousing bolts down.
The other is the "U" part of the drawbar is inside of the plates that come back from the rearend housing.
