UK Wheat Harvest

We cut some wheat this morning using a MF 65 and Albion Binder. Sorry it wasn't a M-H binder but I haven't got mine going yet.
Albion binders were made in England. Slightly heavier than a M-H which I am told was a disadvantage in the horse drawn days.
The straw from the crop will go for thatching. I don't think you thatch the roofs of your house in North America with straw but we use to and they still need repairing.
We do have more modern ways of havesting wheat this side of the pond but not for cutting thatching straw!!!!!!!
We will be flying out to Canada on 10th August and going to the sale and Expo so hope to meet up with some of you there.

RE:UK Wheat Harvest

Hope you have got the sheaves all in Alan? I always enjoy seeing a binder working, even if not a Massey.
Hope you have your case packed and ready for the journey? It looks like strawberries and Jersey cream are in short supply in Canada, so we may have to manage with an ice cream!!!
See you at the sale.

Malcolm

RE:UK Wheat Harvest

I hadn't used a binder since 1962 when I pulled it behind a Standard Fordson so I enjoyed that. Luckily someone else is going to cart the sheaves in.

I'm disappointed about the strawberries and cream but I guess we will make up for it in other ways.

Yes bags all packed. We fly out on Saturday. Look forward to meeting up at the sale.
