RE:Challenger front wheels

John,

Hope you have some positive response from across the pond for Challenger front steels.

I was very pleased with the replacement steel rims and spokes Detwiller's of Wisconsin did on my styled Red Challenger front wheels a few years back before it came from Dennis Brown, it was the only way I could see me getting the tractor on all steel. They look even better now with the skid rims fitted which Gwil made for them in North Wales.

Good luck,

Malcolm.

Are there many of these solid cast Challenger front wheels around made by PAC Axle and Trailer Equipment Co of Los Angeles?

RE:Challenger front wheels

After several months and many miles of travelling this Single Front Wheel Challenger finally found it's destination yesterday afternoon in Salmonby, Lincolnshire.

This tractor worked in Oregon and recently travelled to Wisconsin when I had the opportunity to buy it, then on it's way to Ontario where I saw it for the first time in August and decided to put new rubber tyres on it whilst there, then it was shipped across to UK arriving in South Wales and yesterday I got to collect it from Chester for it's final leg of the journey.
Many thanks to all the great network of people involved in this mamoth logistical transportation effort in getting this tractor to it's new stable.

Here are some photographs of the tractor during the last five months.

RE:Challenger front wheels

Malcolm,

It must run very quiet with that duct tape muffler.

RE:Challenger front wheels

Tom,

It runs so sweet and quiet at the moment and has not used much gas in over 4,500 miles of travel, just amazing the power of duck tape.

Another project to add to the "to do list" which seems to keep getting longer these days.

Malcolm,

I don't know how much history you know about your Challenger but you have already created history yourself with the photos of it as it crossed North America.

What a lovely tractor to add to your collection.

RE:Challenger front wheels

Malcolm,

I know the feeling of the "the to do" list.  I have a sign in my shop that reads:  "God put me on Earth to restore a certain number of antique tractors. Right now I am so far behind I will never die".

By the way it a good looking tractor.

Tom

RE:Challenger front wheels

Its over 15 months since this tractor arrived here, with everything else going on it just got pushed to one side for a while and eventually got moved into the "U" frame line in the shed just in time for our US Massey visitors last August. They did participate in the project a little by carrying a pile of refurbished parts back in their rental vehicle from the Western Massey Machine Shop for this project and they have been sitting on my bench ever since last August.
So over the recent two weeks I have been debating what to do with this tractor as my first impressions and ideas when it arrived here in England was it would need a full restoration and paint once all the mechanicals are sorted and its up and running.

As you will see from the above photo's it has been repainted red at some time in it's life and starting to clean things up a little I have started to take this tractor down the "original " route as you will see from the two photo's here what I have discovered underneath the red paint.

Its very slow progress  but I feel will be very worthwhile and I am excited about seeing the end result over the coming months after a lot of careful reclamation of the old paintwork.
