RE:Massey 201, 202 and 203 tractors

Here is a 203 which was sold in auction Saturday, this tractor has spent all it's working life in Lincolnshire, most tractors involved with threshing contractors here in England were fitted with winches to pull the threshing machine, elevator and sometimes chaff cutters into the difficult and wet farmyards during the winter threshing months.
The winch fitted to this tractor is by the popular manufacturer Hesford, the rear spike has been replaced at sometime in it's life with a more modern box section and channel iron one.

As with several threshing tractors here in UK the original petrol / kerosene engine has been replaced with the famous Perkins P6 Diesel engine, a much cheaper engine to run all day belted to the threshing machine.

There was a lot of interest in the tractor and it sold very very well on the day and I understand it was seen being driven down the road by it's new owner from the sale site later in the day.

Malcolm:

Did you get a picturre of the Serial number? Or did you jot down the Serial number? It is a great looking tractor.

After seeing the Diesel engine in it maybe this is what Tom was looking at on the earlyier post with the fuel tank  with the extra return port in the fuel tank...

Sorry Joe the serial number plate was unfortunately long gone.

RE:Massey 201, 202 and 203 tractors

Thanks for the pictures Malcolm, Looks nice! If you happen to now the new owner the serial number should be stamped around the gear shift pattern or on the left front side of the transmission. They kind of stamped the number everywhere.

We are thinking that maybe the odd 201 had a diesel engine. I don't know if it was a P6 as the engine mounts in Jim's tractor are further back.

RE:Massey 201, 202 and 203 tractors

So much paint has been put on this tractor in it's working life there was no sign of any numbers, we looked hard in the places you described Tom but did not want to start scraping without the owners permission.

RE:Massey 201, 202 and 203 tractors

This is an MH 203 tractor that I saw at a sale last Saturday.  It had been imported over here from Australia.  Note the HV McKay Massey Harris decals.  Note also the cast iron wheels Australia style.  It was sold as a runner but was not running on the day.  Apparently the chap who bought it had it running soon after he got it home.

Good tyres and a relatively straight tractor which with a bit of replacement tinwork would soon come into a good original tractor.  I didn't stay to see it sold but it apparently made about £3700

RE:Massey 201, 202 and 203 tractors

The original British import 203 which John showed in the "UK Shows" thread after last weekend's Newby Hall Rally, is serial number 99455, with a few more photgraphs below you can see the plate put in the hood over the original air cleaner pipe hole, and the addtioinal signwriting added to the hood when the Perkins P 6 diesel engine was fitted.

RE:Massey 201, 202 and 203 tractors

Hi Reuhlz,  re your quest for the Yuma MH 203.  Yes it did come to Northern Ireland, very nice tractor runs as new. Regularly drives a Threshing m/c. and "purrs ' like a cat. Not expensive when I see what I purchased. Not for sale.
For your interest I also bought the MH 44 Orchard tractor MH 20 hp Stationary engine and other bits and pieces.
Regards to all our Massey friends

RE:Massey 201, 202 and 203 tractors

While I was at the Indiana State ZFair I got behind on getting folks set up on the web site.  One of those was Jim White of Northern Ireland.  (See previous post)  Jim does have the Yuma 203.  I will try to attach a pic of it for JIm.

Be sure to welcome Jim.  He as lots of good Massey info.  Hopefully, he will start a thread about stationary engines and show off his 20HP he also purchased in Ireland!!
