Massey-Harris Centennial Decal

Hey there Massey Collectors and website contributors!

Do any of you have an electronic scan/photo of that oval 1847-1947 Centennial Decal that I believe was put on the front of some of the 1947 model year tractors?  Or, do you have one of those decals that you could scan?  If so, could you please email that to me, and/or post it here on the website?  You can find my email address at the Board tab, committee chairs page.

Also, if anyone has a nice photo showing where this decal was placed on the top of the grill, I would appreciate if you could either email and/or post that as well.

Thanks!

John Bush

RE:Massey-Harris Centennial Decal

I found the Centennial decal that I have.  I scanned it and am attaching the photo here.

There are a couple of things about this decal that you can't tell from the scan:  The decal is actually clear in two places that show white on the scan (due to the decal being on white backing paper).  1.  The man's shirt, and 2.  The center section of the round Massey-Harris logo.  The letters M-H with the dash in the middle are actually there, but in white color on the clear.  Therefore, when the decal is applied to the front center, near the top of the grill, the red paint will show through the clear.  The man's shirt will appear red, and the white M-H letters will show on red background in the center of the round M-H logo.

I am not sure who made this reproduction of the Centennial decal, but it is pretty decent.

Next question:  I thought that these were only put on 1947 Model Year Massey-Harris tractors.  An inquiry came to me second hand from a man wanting to put one of these on his 1948 M-H Model 20.  Does anybody know if the 1847-1947 Centennial decal would have been put on a 1948 model from the factory?

Thanks again,

John

RE:Massey-Harris Centennial Decal

This is a decal that I got from Terry Kessel. It is an vertical oval rather than horizontal oval. It did have a yellow background before I put it on the tractor but turned red when applied.
The second scan is from John Farnworth's book "The Advertising of Massey Harris, Ferguson and Massey Ferguson" page 100.
I had asked a similar question about which models and what time period the decal was applied. I would think that only 1947 models had them.

RE:Massey-Harris Centennial Decal

I reproduced these decals 15 or 20 years ago.  I still have some.  The wide football shaped oval was for machines like the baler or combine.  The egg shaped decal was for the hood of the tractors.  I've seen them on 20, 30, and 44-6 tractors.  These decals could have been a dealer add on once they were at the dealer. The massey literature doesn't show the decal in their pictures.
