M-H Tractors/Racine

Along with the tank photos I also acquired some of tractor production at Racine which I will also feed on to this site.

The first offering is one of the racine office in 1950.  It is shown with quite a line up of tractors of the day.  I wonder if anyone in Racine/Wisconsin area can tell us if that building is still standing?

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

Here is today's offering regarding the MH Racine tractor production.  Two shots of the assembly lines.  Can someone who knows more than I do identify the models please

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

The photo on the left looks to me like Massey-Harris Model 22.  The photo on the right looks to be Massey-Harris Model 44 Standard.  Neither of these models would have been on the assembly line in 1957, which would appear to be the date hand written across the bottom of the photos, both of which say Sept. 24, 1957.  However, if you look at the numbers written in white in the bottom right corner of the actual photo, it suggests to me that the photos were actually taken in November of 1947.  That would match the appearance of the tractors and the Models 22 and 44.

Those are my thoughts.  :-)

Thanks for sharing the photos, John!

Left out one part.  In the first photo, the assembly line to the right with more of sheet metal installed is the Model 22.  The assembly line to the left, further back in the picture, and without the hood and grill installed would appear to be the Model 55.

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

I would argue the 22.  The grill looks more like a 20 or 81.

I would also agree with the 55 in the first photo and the 44s in the second photo.

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

I think the one assembly line  photo is the MH20.  I took the photo and blew it up 500% and counted the slats in the grille.  I counted 8 or 9.   The MH22 only had 6 slats not counting the top and bottom.   The 81 & 20 used the same grille but if the date on the photo is 11/47 that would make it too late to be an 81,  but production of the 20 ended in 1948 which would make it the right time frame.   The other photo of the assembly lines appears to be both 44's.  If you count the grille slats it appears there are 7 which would make it a 44 or 44-6.  They were both  being produced in 1947.

Thanks folks for your identifications - all interesting stuff.

Today a slight change of tack.  I believe (but am not certain) that the tank section of the facility at Racine ultimately became the N American spare parts centre for MF.  Here is an outside view and plan of that.  Cananyone identify the cars in the car park?

Is this building still standing I wonder?

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

I agree with Drew and Terry on the smaller tractor being the 20 and not 22.  I saved it over to my hard drive and enlarged it like Terry said he did.  Doing that you can see the 20/81 style grill that way, and also the side panels.  (I'm just not as familiar with the smaller tractors to have picked-up on that without blowing up the photo.)   Oh, well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.  :-)

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

Just went back and looked at the 44 standards again in the other photo.  Looks like all the ones that you can see the hood on are 4 cylinders with the intake and exhaust both on the rh side of the hood.
