Family tractors remembered - gone but not forgoten

The other thread for family tractors still in existence has started well so being as I am not tied up with Ski Whizzing (!!!) this weekend I thought I would start my suggested other thread off.

This time I suggest that it is for tractors that our families owned once upon a time (and maybe combines and implements) but have now gone to the scrap man in the sky  but for which we still have photos and maybe a tale to tell about them.

I am kicking off with my grandfather's Massey-Harris 12-20 which you have seen before on another thread but it is just to hand and of the right size.  The photo was taken by the M-H company as my grandfather tested equipment for them as he farmed almost next door to the factory.  On the tractor is Tommy Moss and my father is operating the binder.  It was one of the first 12-20s sold into the UK and as you can see looks very new

Here is a 444 that we had and it got traded for a Super 90 D in 1968.  I wish I had both of them back.

Lovely to see a tractor as it should be - at work and in its working clothes.  Both the general muck and  also the oil leaks gathering dust to make the black encrustments over the engine and transmission.  SUPERB!!!  That really was how they were in life - not highy polished show specimens!  I probably risk a backlash!

Also the steering and gear levers got sloppy and added to the character of driving them which today's modern restorers will never enjoy.  Keep them original if they will run and move!

Here is a picture of a M-H 201 that was in my family a few generations back. I believe it was traded in in 1957 for a massey harris 50. I was born in 1971 so I never saw the tractor in person. I don't know where the tractor ever ended up, but it has been on the back of my  mind for 25 years.

Here is a picture of our Massey's - a 65 and an 85 respectively.  I'm guessing that the picture was taken around 1964.  My older brother is on the 65.  My sister and I are on the 85.

This was my Dad's first self propelled combine - a Massey 300.  I remember how he had to do some custom combining for others to help pay for it.

Great photos and memories.  Once again I feel remorse for the fact that my family just didn't take photos of us on the old farm equipment.  Oh, to have a photo of the first wheat harvesting experience for me - a PTO driven Massey-Harris PT-60 combine pulled by my Dad's 1953 Model 44...  But, alas...

Todd - Glad to see someone from the "younger generation" (as in born the year I graduated from high school...) getting active on the website.    Thanks!
