RE:Valve Spring Failure on Massey 25

Just giving this 25 thread a boost again.

Here is a photograph of a very original unstyled tractor and one which many of us have not seen in the flesh being a H. V. McKay from Australia, I am sure we could  find a place in our sheds to park one of these in such good condition, a few moments with the oil gun would have this tractor looking very different , what a lovely decal on the hood.

Malcolm:

Very nice looking tractor!! It appears to say sunshine under the Massey Harris but I can't make out what it says after the Harris P15? Do you have any more close ups of this? Just courious as to what it says.

Good to hear from you Joe, we were getting worried that you was stuck under a pile of snow or too busy crushing cars, hope prices are good.

Very good observation on the hood decal Joe, it is PTY LTD which is the Australian version of your US INC.

Have a good day,

Malcolm.

RE:Valve Spring Failure on Massey 25

I have a Wallis 20-30 with 2 broken valve springs and a MH 25 with 1 broken spring. Does anyone have or know where I can get new springs??? Also wondering if you can get new gasket sets for these tractors?? Thanks

RE:Valve Spring Failure on Massey 25

Chris,

I do not know of anyone reproducing new valve springs,

I was lucky a few years ago and bought two NOS sets of springs for a 25 from Tom Underwood at the Portland Show, one set has just gone into my recent styled 25 tractor on this thread. With regard to 20-30 springs I have located a few for my projects from Gary Biewer at Barnesville MN, I would suggest giving him a call and see what he has lying out in the weeds.

Other than that it is the matter of finding comparison springs or taking an old one to a spring manufacturing company as a pattern to have a new set made, which I know has been done over here and expect you have the same facilities across the pond.

The same with gaskets, there has been a few NOS head and manifold gaskets coming out for sale on ebay and swap meets etc, but do not know of anyone doing full new gasket sets for the eearly Wallis and M-H tractors, again here in UK we have a good Company who reproduces gaskets in many different  types of materials including the old style copper head gaskets with a modern replacement for the asbestos between the copper, they are expensive but still work the best for me.

Good luck with your projects and post us some pictures.

Here is an action shot photograph just been sent to me following our Carrington Rally this weekend, you never know who is watching and clicking away at these events, so a good job the tractor started on the third pull up.

RE:Valve Spring Failure on Massey 25

Chris/Malcolm and Others:

You are not going to believe this but I have been working on getting valve springs made for the Wallis 20-30 lately!!  I had enough sets made for Fourty tractors, some are already spoken for and I need some for myself but I am sure I will be able to spare some if others nees some. I have not come up with a price yet as I just got them in the mail yesterday, but I think they will be very reasonable.  I think they look very good and am very pleased with the way they turned out.

Joe

RE:Valve Spring Failure on Massey 25

Well done Joe, they look a very good copy of an original spring, many Wallis owners will appreciate your efforts in getting them done as most of the NOS parts are getting used up now and harder to find.

Hope you have a few spare for me to put in my suitcase later in the year.

Malcolm.

RE:Valve Spring Failure on Massey 25

Malcolm, Pleased to hear you had good weather for Carrington Rally. Joe, the valve spings look good, I would like to buy two sets.
