I am interested to hear your thoughts on the No 2 wheel hubs following our in depth discussion on one of our Winter Massey Meets in the West, I have seen a Parrett E with the same style of hub as the green wheels photographed, but the only difference I could observe was Parrett put a large raised cast "P" in the front hub caps.
I looked at some Parrett E photographs last night trying to count the pinion gear teeth at a distance, I am sure it was 11, it would be good to get this confirmed from an E owner, then we know the H has 13, so then it leaves you in a conundrum of why 13 on your M-H No 2.
It looks like your project is moving forward at considerable speed, have you found an engine yet? I notived in the last Legacy there was an ad for another engine wanted in SK, so yet another one required, maybe you should be like Allan Severson on Smokstak who is making the Big Four engines, you could start a Buda production line.
Malcolm.
Thanks for the pictures John, All my wheels look like your green ones. I guess that is the older style. I have noticed that most of them are of the later style. We have been thinking that these wheels were a purchased item because there is so many wheels similar in design used by other manufacturers.
And I have not seen any E Parretts with the bolt on hub caps. But on the H Parrett they all were supposed to have the three bolt hub caps and Timken tapered bearings. The is two different style hub caps use on the wheels. The early style has P cast on them and then some time they switched to a more plain design. I have another front axle and wheels off an H Parrett with these later style hub caps. The Parretts from what I have seen used many different wheels too. at least 4 different style rears and 3 different fronts between the E and H models.
I have had very little luck on the engine. I did find one but I am not paying the $20,000 asking price for it! Wasnt that nice either. The best bet in my opinion is going to be making the cylinder block and heads. That has been the plan for a while anyway just have no pattern yet! The crankcase is the partially the same as some of the truck engines so I might be able to get one of them and fix the picture window in my crankcase. The want ad from SK could probably be for the tractor at the Sukanen Museum, or another one I don't know of.
