RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

I found this well known character, his hat and tractor lurking in the shade at the Newby Hall rally on Saturday.  When will he finish the restoration and fit the wheel lugs?!

John

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

I have found it is much easier to just buy another GP than to try to find lugs for the one you have..  Nice looking tractor!!! And the driver is looking good too!! Keep up the good work...

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

John and Joe,

There is nothing better than a ride around a rally field on a Sunday afternoon with a M-H GP without the lugs on the wheels, such a smooth ride and sound from that Hurcules engine makes it delight to experience, even more so when you come to load it onto your trailer to go back home, so much easier without the lugs and as you know the 66inch width just fits onto our Ifor Williams trailers.

I do have the lugs and extension rims for this tractor, it was restored in 1985/ 86 so 27 years on and I have still yet to finish it, I was in such a rush to get it restored and ready for the first ever Massey Harris event in UK, I took five tractors up to Alnwick in Northumberland and this one won the "best restored tractor at the show" maybe it will never get finished now, those 27 years just seems like yesterday!

The prize of the day was a painting of my tractor by John Appleyard a well known artisit from the North and friend of John Moffit, he painted all the pictures of John's tractors which hung in the museum at one time, mine takes pride of place in "my bedroom" and brings back lots of memories of the early years of collecting M-H and the "First Massey Show" long before the travels to the National Wild Harvest Shows across the pond and formation of the MCA.

Can anyone else here in UK recall that rally? if not maybe I should dig out my old photgraphs, there was a rare "wide front four wheel Green CH went on the same load"

Malcolm.

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

I went to Massey Days, but I don't think I had enough alcohol, because I could not find that field mouse playing the guitar!  I thought for sure he would show up there!!

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

You never know what will show up during the Paisley Show in August, keep your trousers bottoms well tied Drew to stop the mouse running up your leg, you will know if he starts to play a tune!!!
Pay particular attention when the G-P is being sold at George's sale, he may make an appearance there before the show!!

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

This French six page heavy card service document for the G-P seems to be creating some interest, so thought I had better post all the pages and see if Joe or anyone else can spot more points of interest or field mice with guitars.

Malcolm.

OH OH what fun.  I see an elephant jumping over a fence and a stegosaurus walking behind a hill!
