Jim Erdle Auction - New York

Well I am registered and heading to New York for the Erdle Auction.  I am NOT taking a trailer unless someone wants me to bring something for them!?!?  Definitely not taking the check book.  Don't have enough money in it to cover the high costs that items will go for.

Primarily going to see tractors I have never seen before and probably will never see again.

Should be a fun weekend and we hope to see some of you there.

If you are going let me know!!

Thanks

Gary

Hope to see you. We too are leaving the trailer behind. Suzie

RE:Jim Erdle Auction - New York

Did either of the M-H #2 tractors go to a Massey collection? Will they be shown at any future Massey shows?

RE:Jim Erdle Auction - New York

We were all sitting under a tent (about 600 people I think). It was hard to see who got what and did not see anybody we really knew. They also had about 280 online bidders.

RE:Jim Erdle Auction - New York

Well I don't know where all of the stuff went to but I know a few.
The unpainted #2 is going to Indiana, the Cub Jr and K Wallis are headed overseas, and the two little 11-22 Sawyer Masseys are coming to MN. From the people I have talked to so far there is more than 30 tractors from the sale coming to MN.

RE:Jim Erdle Auction - New York

Well I registered but did not make it to New York.  I know some of our more active web site participants was there so maybe he can update us.  I didn't buy the #2 either but would have loved one.  I am sure a could have gotten a button installed on it!!

Don't know much!!

RE:Jim Erdle Auction - New York

We bought this at the auction. Its a nice piece of wiard plow history. We were told it is a tile plow.

Here is another piece from the wiard plow. If anyone knows what this is we would love to here from you. Each wheel can be adjusted, the hitch is in the middle and there is a beam that is offset going to the rear of the implement.

"WHERE WAS ALL THE MASSEY COLLECTORS"

Getting back to England after the Massey Expo gave me three weeks of work and then time to get back on the plane and into New York, the drive out to Canandaigua took me through Binghamton, where I decided to stay overnight, again another town with Massey history that no one in the hotel or restaurant seemed to have any knowledge of.

Then it was onto the preview day for the Jim Erdle auction, arriving early afternoon in beautiful sunshine and unfortunatley with a bad back from the plane ride, it was an interesting afternoon, there seemed to be more collectors there from England than locals on view day.

After seeing the collection tightly squeezed into buildings whilst at the Massey Expo at Canandaigua two years ago I decided if there was ever an auction I would be back to see all the tractors out on view.

As the three day sale worked through it was a fantastic auction and experience, BUT WHERE WAS ALL THE MASSEY COLLECTORS? I run into Dennis and Susie Roundy and that was all the Massey Collectors I chatted with, so a good job I have interests in other makes.
Where was you Gary?, I had taken the trouble to get the Jersey cream through Customs and into The Holiday Inn Express, so was waiting for you bringing the strawberries, as you did not show up I had to go across the street and buy some from the grocery store, didn't want to waste the cream after all the efforts.

All I can say is you all missed a once in a lifetime experience at the auction, I was pleased to see Susie carrying around a few treasured Wallis items also the Wiard truck and wheels which I saw in the weeds have gone to a good home together with the plow.

I will post some photographs shortly.

Malcolm.

RE:Jim Erdle Auction - New York

Here is a glimpse of some of the Massey related tractors from the Saturday auction, we did appreciate the tent with chairs and everything sold from the big screen, as the rain poured down outside, it also made moving of the tractors a little tricky later in the day and during Sunday.

Here are photographs of the Big Bull serial number 7775, it was a very good tractor and sold for $45,000
The Sawyer Massey 20-40 with no serial number had not been touched for years and required some work to bring back to life, the Maddison Kipp oiler box was missing, it sold very well at $90,000
Two other Sawyer Massey 11-22 tractors were major restortation projects, the later model serial number 5104 is one number apart from the 11-22 here in England owned by Bob Parke, it made $23,000 the other older model 11-22 sold well at $13,000 and I beleive both these went to the same home in MN.

Also note Kurt Aumann was charging a 5%buyers premium on top of the bid price, plus another 5% for credit card payments, so that was a factor in calculating your bid price.
Jim Erdle was offering a financing package for purchasers with stage payments and 0% interest, I am sure this would be beneficial option for some buyers.

Malcolm.
