2nd Annual Varna Plow Day

Thank you to Gary and Pat Sager and committee members Wes, Damon, Deb Armstrong and Ron and Elane Yanos for a fantastic day at the second annual plowing event near Varna. Thanks to Dave Morrison for being on hand to make adjustments and give advice to help make the furrow straight and deep.
I had a great time and am looking forward to next year's Great Planting in Ohio and the Varna Plow Day!
Don Snyder's slogan "Old Massey's Collect the Nicest People" is alive and well.

RE:2nd Annual Varna Plow Day

Didn't anyone take pictures at the plow day? It will be two weeks tomorrow and still nothing.

RE:2nd Annual Varna Plow Day

Jerry,

I did not make it to the plow day and have not received any pictures yet to post on the gallery from anyone who was there nor have heard from anyone that was there yet other than what Mike P posted on here.

I did manage to do a little plowing here at home and got a little video to hold you over until we see some pictures of the Plow Day in Illinois. Here is a little clip of one of John F's favorite tractors in my shed plowing yesterday.

RE:2nd Annual Varna Plow Day

Just checked my email and I got a couple pictures from Rick Keating to post as he forgot his user name and password to post so he asked me to post them here they are.

First one is Damond on the single front then I believe it is Opi on the LP and if memory serves me right I believe the 12-20 is Fred's from Wisconsin.

RE:2nd Annual Varna Plow Day

Thanks Joe for your pictures/ video and posting the ones from Rick. I needed to see some plowing  pictures.

RE:2nd Annual Varna Plow Day

Joe,

It's looks as though you were enjoying yourself doing a little plowing but perhaps sometime this winter you may have to give that steering wheel a little bit of attention.Ha! Ha!.

What width of furrow does your plow take?

Alan

RE:2nd Annual Varna Plow Day

Thanks Joe,

Very nice to hear the music from that tractor, it sounds in very good shape running well, doing some field work always cleans the cobwebs out and does them good.
It looks like you are still very dry there in MN, it certainly cleaned and polished your plow up nicely, they always slip much better when bright.

Where are all the pictures from Varna? we anxiously await to see more of what you have all been up to across there.

Malcolm.

RE:2nd Annual Varna Plow Day

Malcolm,

I am glad you enjoyed the pictures and video. We finally got 2 inches of rain here the other day but is drying up fast again.

I know it is good to take these old tractors out and work them and keep the cobwebs off them but sometimes it back fires and things happen that makes for a bad day. Here is a picture of a bad day........ I was just getting to the end and ready to lift the plow and hit a very large rock, it lifted the whole plow about 3 feet in the air. when I got off to check out the damage I noticed the coulter laying in the field...

Here is another video, not too long but at least you won't get bored watching it.

RE:2nd Annual Varna Plow Day

Jerry,

Since I still haven't seen any pictures from the Plow day on here I thought I would stick a couple more on here for you to keep your Plow fix satisfied.

It takes along time to get a plow shined so it works like it should and usually once you get it shined like it should be your finished with the field before it gets all the way shined like it should be to work properly.

Now that I am all done plowing for this year and got them shined as good as they are going to get I got them prepared for the year wait until I need them again. I like to get the shiny parts washed up real good then dry them off and spray them with clear coat paint so I can enjoy the look every time I walk by them. I found this is far better than rubbing them down with grease or painting them with any old paint as the clear coat gives it a much better look and when you go to use them the next year it only takes about 50 feet in the field to rub the clear coat off.

RE:2nd Annual Varna Plow Day

I wish I could exercise my plows on my place.  Unfortunately, my tenant farmers are all no till, and "strongly encourage" me not to plow anything up.  It causes problems with the no till planter...  Maybe I will actually go back to hobby farming it some year with my old stuff.  Then I can plow to my heart's content!
