Need help 44Special / 444 with MHA277 engines

Friend trying to restore his dads 44 Special with a gas MHA277G in sad shape. Have a parts tractor with LP MHA277B. Understand MHA277B was 8.98:1 Compression.

What is basic difference between 1954 MHA277G engine and 1956 MHA277B - have heard difference to get higher CR was domed pistons - other info different high compression head.

What is best source for rebuild parts and how interchangeable are parts from 2 engines?

How viable is a 9:1 CR on todays gasoline?

Thanks, Ed
