Vernon Winterroth passes

It is with great sadness that we heard of the passing of a dear, dear friend and avid Massey collector.  Vernon Winterroth passed away last night after a long struggle with cancer.  He gave it a good fight.  There were a couple of times we all thought he had it beat but it came back again and again and just wore him out.  His wonderful wife Deanna was by his side throughout.

The visitation will be Tuesday, July 1st from 11 - 12 with the funeral following at noon at the Schreffler Funeral Home in Herscher, IL.  Their home address is 3444 N. 1500 E. Road, Kempton, IL   60946.  Let's keep Vernon, Deanna and their family in our thoughts and prayers as they move through this difficult time.

As for the National Show in Indiana this year, I have no doubt Vern will be there, not physically but spiritually watching over us.

RE:Vernon Winterroth passes

Different writer; same sincere thoughts!!

The Massey community lost another great collector and strong supporter of the Massey Collectors Association early this morning, June 27, 2014.  Vernon Winterroth, Kempton, IL passed away with quiet dignity after a valiant fight with cancer.

Vernon was a leader in establishing the Illinois Chapter of MCA and served on the inaugural Site Selection Committee for the Massey Exposition of North America.  Vernon and Deanna introduced many of us to the late Larry Weber and helped create the history and legacy of the Yuma Auction.

Vernon always enjoyed showing his beautiful mounted corn picker or self-propelled Massey Harris corn sheller or his Massey Harris 21A combine and Dodge truck that was used to recreate the Great Harvest Brigade by Lenwood Holo.  You could always find Vernon at the Fifty Years of Progress in Rantoul using his equipment to the delight of the crowds attending the huge show. But most of all, Vernon loved being a grain farmer and has passed that love on to his grandson Devon.

His wife Deanna said even while he was ill, Vernon was out in the field with Devon preparing the ground, planting, and remaining until the task was finished this spring.  It seemed that was his final goal – getting the crops in the ground for the 2014 season.  Vernon kept going until he accomplished that goal!!

The calling for Vernon will be held at the Schreffler Funeral Home, 161 E Myrtle Ave., Herscher, IL 60941 on Tuesday, July 1, from 11:00 A.M. to 12 Noon followed by his funeral at Noon.

Vernon leaves behind his loving wife, Deanna, son Garry and two grandsons Devon and Caleb.

The family asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to “Family Wishes.”

Vernon  said he hoped to make one last Massey Expo before he passed, but now he will be watching down on us all in August.  Rest in peace Vernon.  We will miss you!
