Austin MB Massey show

This weekend we drove up to Manitoba to see the Massey expo at the Manitoba Ag Museum in Austin MB. Jim decided he was going to bring a couple tractors with so thats the 22 and Mustang standard on the trailer and a 44-6 standard that is freshly rebuilt and waitng for paint. Before we left we had to look over Jim's new Massey 90 wheatland with only 4000 original hours, I cant say I have seen a 90 standard before as we thought they were just and 88 then with the standard axle? Maybe somebody else knows?
We made a few detours along the way to look at some stuff and stopped at a few extra places along the way. First place we stopped the guy had a bunch of John Deere and International tractors along the road for sale but only a couple Masseys, One was this 333 diesel standard. Not very common but the guy really thought it was gold. Then we headed west again and found this #2 along side the road, Nice tractor!

RE:Austin MB Massey show

Then on Saturday we headed over to Austin from our Hotel to see the Massey show. They had a good turnout with many 101's and 102's, 44's everywhere nd several nice 55's. For the older stuff they had two Sawyer Massey's, two wallis, two 25's, a pacemaker, three 4wd's, and then the rest was newer tin stuff.

RE:Austin MB Massey show

When we got back to Jim's, I finally remember to take home my purchase from last year that he found for me. It is a NOS hand crank for a Walls Cub JR or K. One of his friends dad had a Wallis and Massey dealer in the 20's and early 30's before Jim's family took over the Massey dealer in 38 or 39. So this crank was hanging in the old dealer buildingwest of Cavalier with the other parts since then and now is going on my shelf. We were thinking on the way home if I use it is it still new?
The odd thing is it is painted black.

RE:Austin MB Massey show

Tom,

I am really curious about the Massey-Harris No. 2 you found "along side the road"...  Looks like it is inside a building!  Did you already know it was there?  Also looks like it hasn't moved in quite a while.  Did the owner happen to mention the last time it might have run?

It seems to be quite a summer for No. 2 tractors showing up...

RE:Austin MB Massey show

I have to admit I did know where the #2 was when we were going there but never got a hold of the owner before we showed up since he was already at Austin. His neighbor showed us around though so it worked out after we drove a few hours out of the way to see it. I do not know how long it has been since it was moved but probably 5 years or so? They said last time it was ran they had it belted up to his Sawyer Massey #1A thresher.

There is alot more #2's than a person would think since you don't see them at shows. I have a list of just over 35 of them left now in various conditions but I am sure that can jump to over 40 within a couple years and more searching.

RE:Austin MB Massey show

Many thanks for the photo's of the Massey feature at Austin Tom, I have spent several hours there over the years, did you get into the bone yard behind the wire fence?? there was several Wallis tractors in there last year when I had a guided tour, we drove around in the car, some very nice project tractors of all makes for future restoration.

Also pleased you got to see the No 2, I first met the owner here in England at a Rally in the early 1990's, then met him again when I went to buy my Sawyer Massey 20-40 in 1998, got a shock when he fetched me into the house for breakfast on the morning of the sale after travelling 24 hours and sleeping a few hours in the car West of Winnipeg.

Anyway since then I have driven that No 2 around his yard a few times, seen it at the local show and stayed with them at their home before they sold the farm, two great brothers with a great affection for old iron on both sides of the pond.

How many more No 2's are you going to add to your growing list?? when are you going to find a No3???????????????????????????????????????????

Malcolm.

RE:Austin MB Massey show

I hope to find more #2's I know they are out there it is just a matter of finding them. I have some leads on a few more in the US and Canada. I would really like to find a #3, I like them more than a #2. They just look nicer more modern and actually have an engine that will last for a while in them, but we are running out of shed space again with a green pacemaker on the way Friday but I think there is a spot for a #3 if I found one I could afford!
