Wisconsin State Show

Well it has come and gone already... Where does the time go?? Once again the Wisconsin Chapter has put on a great show with a lot of great people to talk with and great Massey related displays.

John, you will be happy to know the little P-3 finally got it's first public appearance!! You will notice it is back on Steel, about ten minutes before I loaded it on the trailer I noticed the tire was just a bit low so I put a little air in it and in no time it had two bulge spots sticking out the side. I know you said the tires were not that great but I have put about 10 miles on them since I had it and even plowed with it and they seemed to be alright.

I did not want to chance flat at the show so at the last minute before loading it up I switched it back to the rear steel. When I got back home Sunday after noon I noticed the tire was not leaning up against the shed where I put it but was about six feet away and laying down. I figured maybe a raccoon tipped it over and it rolled there but after looking a bit closer there was big rip in the side where it blew out just leaning against the shed when I was gone... Glad I decided to change it and put it on Steel for the show!

RE:Wisconsin State Show

Joe,

I'm delighted to see the Ferguson P3 on show so far away from "home".   Especially with the skelton wheels fitted.  Did it raise a few comments?  Next thing is for you to take it to a working event!

RE:Wisconsin State Show

John,

The little Fergie got a lot of looks and second and third looks!! Most people would have walked right by it but I think the rear steel wheels and two bottom plow got them to slow down and take a little closer look. Many people that know me really took a second look when they seen me on this tractor as this is out of my norm from the earlier Wallis and GPs.

I took it in the parade and when signing up they told me to jot down a few facts about the tractor on a sheet of paper. The lady that was doing the announcing was doing alright at reading my writing but when she got to the part of ( Imported from Wales, UK and the former owner being the famous writer John Farnworth) she looked up at me and the tractor to get a second look at what she was talking about and by the time she got back to her place on the card where she left off she was two or three tractors behind.

Roger G told me he was about 50 feet away from it and noticed there was something funny looking on the front grill that he couldn't make out so had to get a closer look, he was shocked to see a little Fergie with a Diesel in it and even more shocked when he looked at the other side and saw the sign stating imported from Wales, UK and now owned by Joe & Jo Poncelet....

I have done a little plowing with it at my brothers and it handled the little two bottom with plenty of power to spare

RE:Wisconsin State Show

Joe,

I like those "harrows" running behind each furrow.  I don't think they are original Ferguson are they??

Just to clarify on diesel engines in Ferguson tractors.
1.  They were never fitted to N American TO Fergusons
2. The TE Fergusons in the UK which had diesel engines were fitted with a Standard Motor Company diesel engine and the regular tractors were designated TEF.
3. In the UK the Perkins P3 diesel engines were an after market offering by Perkins and never fitted as original equipment.  They usually replaced worn out petrol or petrol/TVO engines and were of course much more economical.
4. However some P3 engines were fitted as standard to Ferguson TE tractors and designated TEY.  These were only for the YUGOSLAVIAN market who demanded them!

The P3s are a superb engine with loads of torque, and a delight to listen to!!  Keep the old girl running Joe.  I was especially pleased when you told me at Rushville that it had started without problem in sub zero temperatures last winter

RE:Wisconsin State Show

Thanks for the photo's from Wisconsin Joe,

I bet you noticed a difference and reduction in your gas bill hauling the Fergie to Wisconsin, would of been a different story with the Cub on your trailer.

I have never seen those aftermarket fittings on a plough before, expect they helped pull the trash in as well as knocking the tops off the furrow. Did you get any photo's of the plough at work?

Malcolm.
