403 diesel in a 55?

There's an ad on craig's list in Moody, AL.. for a 55 with a rare 403 diesel in it. Wasn't the 382 the only engine that Massey put in the 55? I'm not an expert, so I'm not going to say never. My thought is someone changed the engine.

RE:403 diesel in a 55?

I suppose something that wasn't produced in the factory could be considered "rare"...   Can you post a link to this one?  I searched Birmingham Craig's List which looked closest to Moody, but couldn't find it.

Thanks,

JB

Hi, My parts book and The Official Guide only show the 382. Likely it has been
switched. Chuck

Would it be possible to acquire that many cubic inches with over size pistons?

RE:403 diesel in a 55?

Interestingly enough, if it was bored 0.125" over the production 4.5" bore, to a 4.625" bore, while still at the 6.0" stroke, that would make the engine displacement 403.2 cubic inches.  I've never looked into over-boring the Continental 382 engine, but 0.125" over doesn't seem like too much of a stretch...

Any of you pullers out there done this with the Continental 382 engine?

RE:403 diesel in a 55?

I just talked to a friend of mine with quite a bit of experience with 55's. he says the 403 was mainly a military use engine, but the block is the same as the 382. He also told me M+W sold sleeve and pistons kits for the 382 to make it into a 403. So I guess you could make any 382 into a 403 from what he says.
