UK Memorabilia

I thought I would start a new thread with UK memorabilia as the other one is getting a lot of posts on it.

Here is a 1949 M-H Price List for the UK. I hadn't realized that 44K's and 55K's were imported. Interesting to see the difference in price between a 44 and a 744.

Malcolm how about a Half Track for £1025. Presumably a 744. I think if there was one down the road for that price I might go and see it first before I told you about it Ha Ha !!

RE:UK Memorabilia

I also bought a Massey-Harris Blackstone price list dated 1939 at the weekend .As John Farnworth states in his book Massey Legacy Vol One Blackstone had a manufacturing agreement in the UK with Massey-Harris from 1933 to 1945.

Interesting to see the price of a Pacemaker and Challenger in 1939. Also the list of accessories that were available for both tractors.

I wonder how many Orchard versions of the Pacemaker were sold in this country.

RE:UK Memorabilia

Here are some more pages from the M-H Blackstone price list showing ploughs and the No 15 Combine ( Reaper-Thresher.)

I see under Ploughs the Pulverator  Plough was listed. I wonder if any were ever sold in this country.

RE:UK Memorabilia

Hello Alan,

Good to see you progressing the UK memorabilia on here these wet and miserable days.

With regard to your Pulverator Plough question, I can confirm two of the three known two furrow Pulverator's currently in preservation in UK are original imports and spent their working life turning British soil, the one I have came from Nebraska in recent years.

Malcolm

That's interesting about the Pulverator Ploughs. I have seen one at Carrington but I hadn't realized that they were imported during their working days.

I've been trying to ring the Guy who sold me these price lists without success to see if he knows anything about  the Half Track. Whether one was sold from the Dealership where he worked or not. I'll see if I can find out more.

Here are the last pages of the M-H Blackstone price list

I guess the Blackstone made implements like rakes and elevators would have been badged Massey-Harris

My hay rake is badged Massey-Harris England.

RE:UK Memorabilia

I have just bought this UK Massey-Harris booklet. I am confused by the colour of the 734 Mower on the front cover and the illustration inside the booklet. When I was a boy I used a 734 Mower that had a green frame and cream wheels. I am currently restoring one that has a red frame and cream wheels. I have never seen one with green levers and a red frame. Is this just artistic licence or did M-H paint some this colour?

Any comments would be welcome so that I can paint mine the correct colour. Also did they have Massey-Harris on the frame as is shown in the picture..

Thanks

Alan

RE:UK Memorabilia

Alan,

You have asked the very same question I asked my dad in 1987 when I restored the 734 mower gandad bought new, on stripping it down I found it to be red frame and cream wheels, which I was told the later 1940's and 50's production was this colour.

The early 734 often with "made in Canada" cast into the frame was green with cream wheels, the transition from that was green levers, red frame and cream as per your brochure, the one thing I have never come across before is the Massey Harris along the side of the main frame. Has anyone else seen this on an original mower?

If you sandblast or clean your frame well Alan the serial number is stamped in the top near the drawbar at the front, I found mine after sandblasting, think it was on the side where the jack bolts to.

Malcolm.

RE:UK Memorabilia

Thanks Malcolm,
I will look for the serial number on mine. It being a red frame I guess it was made in this country and would have had red levers but I suppose the serial number will tell us.
I think you told me once that the cutter bar was cream. Is this correct?

Alan

RE:UK Memorabilia

Yes I would say quite possibly a Kilmarnock made mower Alan, here is a picture of the cutterbar of mine, painted in 1987 as dad remembered it new the day it was delivered to Salmonby.
