RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

As for the cars, the one closest at the left side I am guessing is a 1954 Buick.   The next on looks like it could be a Plymouth, but the photo gets really pixilated when I try to enlarge it.    The only other guess I have on the cars is the on closest to the door, right under "Massey", looks like it could be a Cadillac.

What do the rest of you think?

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

In the photo with the MH20 the tractors on the right, there are the MH55 on the left side of the photo.  If you look close at the bottom left of the photo there are two grilles that look like they are waiting to go on.  Those grilles have 8 slots and not 7 which should make them the MH55 like previously mentioned.

It is neat to see all of the pieces just laying around waiting to get assembled.

The cars are before my time (lol) but l would almost say the black car before the door is a Ford and I might call the car just passed the door as the famous Edsel !?!?!?  I would gues the first car as a Buick but I would not put much on it!!  Just can't tell any of them for sure!!

I know we have some car buffs out there.  Hopefully they will tell us!!

Pretty sure the car under the flag is a 1957 Plymouth

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

Well yesterday we saw an outside shot of the racine parts warehouse and a plan of it.  I have now unearthed documented evidence that this operation started in 1958 at the time that they were closing tractor production down there and lots of workers being made redundant.

Here are three shots of operations within the warehouse - note how M-F seemed to have invented the shopping trolleys for Walmart!!

In the UK MF Central Parts Operation warehouse they used to give staff bicycles for going round picking the parts

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

Ok, here are my guesses on the cars.  From left to right, '53 Buick, '54 Ford, '50 Ford,  ?,
'55 Buick, '53 Olds and possibly '54 Caddy.   The last 4 are educated guesses by shape and trim.  I don't see anything newer than '55 for sure.

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

My guesses from the left:
1) 54 Buick
4) 53-54 Chevy
5) 55 Buick

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

Two nice shots here of the workshops at Racine I think.  Don't they show a bygone age with the overhead shaft and pulley lines powering the machine tools by flat belts?

We often had small scale shaft and pulley lines to drive barn machinery on farms over here.  They could be powered by water wheels, engine or tractors.  I still have a great uncle's Challenger which I remember powering is shaft and pulley line to drive an M-H corn grinder in my youth.  That could really make the Challenger grunt if he opened the grain inlet too wide.

Then very near where we live we have one of the largest museums in Wales where the old quarry workshops are preserved just as they stopped working.  The shafts and pulleys are powered by one of the largest water wheels in the UK and Joe was heard to comment "Awesome" when we took him round!

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

Here we have a nice shot of the assembly line inside the fatory - can anyone identify what model is under production here?  The line is being inspected by a delegation from Buenos Aires in 1947.

The second shot is of what must be a very early or even pre production GP with a trailed combine of the day.  This was at a sales managers' conference on Sept 18-21 1929.  Official serial number records of GPs start in 1930 so this was maybe a propaganda conference to get the salesmen geared up to sell the tractors in the following year?
Note that the shot appears to be taken under that famous water tower which I am still awaiting someone to check if it is still there please!

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

John,

Great pictures once again.  If I had to guess I would say either a 44 or 30 by looking at the gas tank.  If the front grille was assembled we would know for sure.  Can anyone else see any other clues?  Perhaps from the engine (162 vs 260 Continental)?

I am leaning towards a 44 with a 260 engine.
