RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

Judging from the bottom of his chin to the top of the radiator it looks to be a short tractor as he is not a tall fella so I would guess it is a MH 30. Also it looks like there is some linkage under his hands going to the governor.

Here are two more shots of the central parts operation at Racine.  So they had little fork lift trucks in those days.  I wonder if it was powered on LPG?  And no shortage of parts apparently - from front wheels to fan belts - all available!

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

What greater welcome could you want if you have travelled from one continent to another to view the Racine plant?

Mr D J Echwerz Harriet from Buenos Aires, Argentina at the Massey-Harris gate on May 29th 1947 - M-H's centenary anniversary year.  He was wondering how he could be welcome if the gate also says keep out!!!  Well at least he is maintaining his cool demeanour.

And no parking either to add isnult to injury!!

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

Now thats funny!!   I wonder if they even realized the keep out sign was there when they hung the banner?? I bet they were pretty embarassed when they looked at this picture later...

Things like this do happen I remember a couple years back, we drove hundreads of miles to one of the national shows and when we got there there was a very huge sign at the entrance gate and Massey Harris was spelled wrong.....

The good about something like this is Negative advertizing usually gets people talking and word of mouth can reach way more people and draw a bigger croud than the original sign ever could have.

The bad thing is I bet this fella felt just as you did when Allan showed you a picture of the wonderful looking cake and told how good it smelled and tasted, then said that it was all gone and your too late...

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

Here's what I think is a good landscape shot of the Racine tractor factory.

Enjoy the bold Massey-Harrs Co signs and that lovely Massey-Harris water tower.

Plenty of smoke belching out of the chimneys so they must have been busy

Is anyone checking out what is left of all this - please - please - please!!!!!  Tome and tide wait for no man and the recent past is soon irretrievable history

Those metal strap binders have not changed much over the years!!  I would have to think the forklift would be LP since it is inside.  Doubt if it was electric!

Now we get to look at some of the early tractors that came out of the Racine plant before M-H took over Wallis.  Nice artist's impression (I think) of the very first Wallis tractor - the might Wallis Bear.  Only one left out of ten made as far as I am aware - maybe Joe can fill us in on facts.

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

Here is the second tractor to roll out of the Wallis Racine plant .  This is the Wallis Cub.  Two of our MCA members have one - in fact one has more than one!  So maybe they could fill us in on some detail and how many still survive.

I am intrigued by the fancy W on the Wallis on the radiator.  Over to you Joe.

RE:M-H Tractors/Racine

John, Do you have pictures of Wallis tractors on the assembly line? I have realy enjoyed the photos you have posted so far, I realy like the old factory pictures of the tractors being built.
