RE:MASSEY SEATS

Here is the second Massey "Toronto" seat.  Again quite a heavy one and now called the Toronto 34

RE:MASSEY SEATS

I now come to what I consider to be the least interesting of all the Massey seats.  It's the P2516 without any M-H mark at all.

RE:MASSEY SEATS

Virtually all Massey seats were made of cast iton but there were two exceptions which were made of tin.  Here is the first in which Massey-Harris is cut out of the tin.  It is a quite an attractive cut out arrangement I feel.

RE:MASSEY SEATS

Here's the second of the two MH tin seats.  This one has Massey-Harris impressed in the upper rim.  A dainty little seat and of course very lightweight.

RE:MASSEY SEATS

Today we have a seat of uncertain origins.  But it is suspected to be a Wisner seat.

Patterson, whose seat we have already seen, merged with Wisner in 1891 and then later in the year Massey-Harris took them over.  Wisners had specialised in the development of tillage and seeding equipment. and were reputedly the first company to put a spring tooth harrow with lifting wheels on the market.  Wisner and M-H had shared agents and distributors, and Harris had sold Wisner cultivation equipment.

Can anyone enlighten us further on this seat??

RE:MASSEY SEATS

I think this is one of the best of the Massey seats - The "Massey Mower".  I believe that it dates from pre merger with Harris days.  In 1881, 10 years before the merger. Massey purchased the Toronto Reaper and Mower Company.  So I am speculating that this seat is a product of that era.

Again,  if anyone knows anything different then please let us know.  If I am right then it makes the seat some 130+ years old.  Lot of life in it yet!!!!!!!!

RE:MASSEY SEATS

Like the Massey P2516 that you have seen earlier I view this Massey 4239 seat as an equally uninteresting one!  But there we are - it's part of the Massey seat line.

RE:MASSEY SEATS

Catching up this afternoon with all the recent seat additions to this thread and seeing the two variations of the tin M-H seat reminded me of the tin J I Case seats, with the lettering pressed out into the outer rim just like the M-H seat

The difference between the two I have is in the wording, this one shows " J I Case Plow Works Company Racine Wis USA"

RE:MASSEY SEATS

In 1861 Massey established a relationship with Walter a Wood and the rights to manufacture their Wood Mower and the Wood Self Rake Reaper.  Finally they bought out Woods.

Here is a Walter A Wood seat as part of the Massey seat family
