RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

Joe,

Something is confusing me!  I don't own 302941-66 only 302915-66 which is the one you thought was the youngest when you were over here.

I think you should get that one down in TX then we could ride around like Siamese twins at some show sometime!

John

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

John F.,

Joe just missed the initial on the salutation below.  Mine is 302941-66, so he should have started his note John B.  The one I brokered for you just north of me here is your 302915-66.

Hope that clears it up.   :-)

John B.

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

After going through some of my pictures I took at Jim Esbenshade's  show in Colbert, OK I couldn't help thinking I have seen one of his GPs before so did some looking through some of my notes and pictures and sure enough it was the tractor that sold from the Hepp collection in Brandenburg, KY. This auction is where Tom Jansen picked up his #2 MH.

While looking though the auction listing on the internet I noticed there was another GP that sold sitting right next to the one Jim bought and they have it listed as being Serial number 300605 this became a big surprise to me as I have a GP with Serial number 300605 sitting in my shed that I bought in Sough Dakota back in 2001. Could this be a twin to my tractor being the same Serial Number?

Was there anyone at the auction who knows the new owner of this tractor? the internet lists the high bidder as being Torben Larson does anyone know who he is? Or better yet got a close up picture of the serial number? Here is a picture of my serial number plate and also the picture they posted of the serial plate on the tractor being sold at the auction. The picture they have is very blurry but it appears to be a 5 at the end and it is a serial plate with the bottom cut off so I can't imagine it being # 301605 as I believe only the first 750 tractors had the serial plate with the cut off bottom. If this is truly # 300605 this would be the first time I have come across two tractors with the same serial number.

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

Hi Joe, Torben Larsen is on smokstak under that name if you want to send him a message.

Will be interesting to see the outcome.

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

HI Joe,

I could have told you all about that GP!!  Actually Jim told me about while giving me the grand tour on Thursday evening.  He pointed it out and had said it came from the Hepp Auction!!  LOL!!

It will be interesting to see about the other!!  Doing the 200 series registery poeple insisted that their tractor was a serial until I conveniced them to go look one more time, and sure enough, it was different than what they thought!!

Have fun on this chase!!

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

Gary,

Just going through some of my pictures from Jim's show and noticed the GP that we were talking about being the second newest flathead earlier in this thread that was on auction in Texas was right in front of our eyes at the  show.

Here is a picture of tractor serial number 302934-66 now owned by Jim and very recently painted. This tractor is the second highest serial number that I know of next to John B's with serial number 302941-66 being the highest and 3rd highest being John F's with serial number 302915-66 does anyone out there know of any with a higher serial number?

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

Here are some photogrpahs of a GP sold last Saturday at the Cheffins end of season collective auction.
Serial number 301118 -66 this recent import tractor requires some refurbishment by it's new owner, the recent addition of the rubber rims and tyres makes this tractor look a lot wider than a 66 inch and the new owner would like to put it back to original steel, also the steering box has been changed and addapted to fit, so he is after an original if anyone has one spare.

There was a lot of evidence of the burgandy red under all the oil and grease on this tractor.

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

Malcolm,

Nice looking tractor, do you know the new owner? I know of some others with the red paint under all the grease so that does not surprise me.

I got back last night around 9:30 pm from my 2,700 mile drive to pick up my two GPs I got in Massachusetts. Good thing I took I-80 instead of I-90 as I missed the big snow storm of 4 feet + of snow... We loaded in the rain and drove about 8 hours in the rain after leaving there so I am guessing that rain turned to snow farther north of us on I-90.

As I said before in another thread these two tractors need a lot of TLC as you can see in the pictures. They are SN 301537-48 and SN 302178-66  The front housing on the 66 inch tractor was broken so I made up a dummy wheel to bolt on just to get it on the trailer easier so if you are wondering why it has a smaller wheel that is the reason.

We did make a pit stop on the way home in Michigan and visited a large collection of Steam engines and Oil Pull tractors it was very impressive even though there were no Masseys  there.

RE:Massey Harris General Purpose Four Wheel Drive

Looks like you have plenty of work for the winter months now Joe, I really liked your temporary fix to get the 66 inch on four wheels and easier to load, well done. Expect the 48 inch will be first on the "to do list", it will make a very interesting tractor, hope Ervin is busy on your tinwork right now?? If you retire now Joe I am sure you have enough projects ahead of you for many years to come, I have the same feeling too.

Malcolm.
