RE:Wallis Tractors

This may sound like a dumb question but what makes lugs wear on the outside like a pair of walked over boots?? Is it from the bouncing back and fourth on hard ground? Or high speed cornering? I have come across this before on different steel wheelers, any ideas? I could understand it if the lugs were loose but they are all tight.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Well the Wallis Model OK is back home again after her visit to Kansas then off to be on loan for the show in Lathrop, MO. Alot has changed since she has been gone as she took on a few more family members. Here is a picture next to her latest new member of the family the Wallis 20-30 and older brother the MH GP.

It is still SOOOOO hot here I think I should whip up a cake mix and toss it on the hood so Jo and I can have a piece of cake for our Anniversary when she gets home from work.
It may burn from the high heat maybe I should just go for the roasted potatos instead.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Joe,

Like the new family members.  You are certainly fast breeders in MN.

May I suggest you turn the ACs right up - roast spuds go down best in really cold weather!.  No need for ACs here today it's about 60F and we've had 2.5 ins of rain on a north wind and 82% humidity - truly miserable.  Lots of shows cancelled around the country tomorrow

Thinking about the corner wear on your lugs my simple mind thinks it's quite simply corner wear for want of a better term.  As the lug penetrates there will be special friction on that corner edge as the lug penetrates the soil - sort of the soil particles grinding round the corner.  This would be a greater abrasive effect than further up on the side edge of the lug.  Do I make any sense?  In my experience all lugs wear like this.

Now back to food again, Malcolm sent us a bag of his Spelt wheat flour via Steve Watts returning from the Carrington rally.  Moira got round to a bread bake yesterday and here is the result.  I had some for breakfast this morning and it's turned out to be a lovely heavy, moist texture bread which takes a thick covering of butter well!

Here is another picture of one tractor that I would really like to find. Maybe one day I will manage to find one for sale! I have only heard of a few of these OK orchard tractors. anybody else know where any are?

RE:Wallis Tractors

Has anybody seen a Wallis with this style Bennett carb before? I just aquired one last week and hope to one day have one on a Wallis

This carb is the most complex I have ever seen. According to the parts book there is over 50 parts. I do not know how well they actually worked. The fuel looks like it has to be picked up 3.5"-4" just to get to the "main" air passage.

Tom:

Cool looking carburetor I hope I get to see it on a Wallis someday and working. Don't know anything about it though as I have never seen one before except for in pictures.

Here is the absolute bummer for the day!!!!!!!!!!! Can you believe in this day and age we are in at this point in the tractor collecting that something like this can even happen??

Here is a recent photo of a box car in Canada on the way to the scrap mill. You can surely see the Wallis 12-20 and I believe the one on the left is a Massey Harris 25 with a MIA manifold on it but I could be wrong as the picture is blurry.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Hey Joe, sad sight to see. I know I would pay scrap price for them! here is another Wallis getting scrapped, only this one was 70 years ago.

I just might have found a tractor to put that carb on. We will see soon! I need an intake manifold  though.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Joe and Tom,

Sorry to see those two destined for China, all I can hope it was passing through the Minnedosa area of Manitoba and then maybe a certain collector of Wallis and Massey Harris tractors who keeps a close eye on here may of seen them and dragged them off the load and home into his pasture??

Good luck with your Kerosene Bennett carburetor Tom, I will be interested to hear how a Cub Junior or K runs with one of those, expect that was in the carb pile at Barnesville??

Malcolm.
