RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

Whilst visiting our grandsons in the Englishe midlands this past few days we went to a local show there.  It was supposed to have some vintage tractors but there was not a one.  Just a solitary Fordson Major we would rank as a "classic" rather than "vintage".  It didn't tturn me on!!

Anyway, the event was staged by the Foxton Locks.  This is a very steep flight of locks on one of our very old canals - over 200 years old in fact.  The establishemnt of such a canal network along the length and breadth of the UK was before we had any sort of decent road system. They were in the main used to transport goods and coal. Originally boats would have been pulled by horses on the towpaths, but this "power" was superceded by steam engines and then internal combustion engines.  The "small" canal network largely fell into disrepair with the advent of road transport but since about the 1960s they have almost all been refurbished and are now used by leisure "boaters" - quite a thriving activity.

We were lucky enough to see one of the "narrow boats" starting its descent down the flight of locks.  Here is a set of photos which I hope will convey the nature of our old canals and one particular set of locks - remember that they are OVER 200 years old!

If you're interested you can hire these boats for a week or so, or simply get day trips on them.

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

There was a show not ten miles from where I live called Journey Through the Ages at the weekend. It's only in it's second year but some nice Masseys there but I think you will have seen most of them before.
Bob had his 201 and Military 44 there, a 203 from Australia, a 744 D with the wrong Steering ( this tractor was sold at a show last year in Norwich) and a nice little 735 combine.
I'm afraid I jumped out of the fold and took a Fordson N and *****shutt Plough.

It's The Norfolk Show tomorrow which is our local Agricultural Show but as I took a tractor up today I thought I would have a preview.

A nice 726 Combine, a M-H Dickie Swath Turner and a couple of French Masseys.

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

Many thanks for all the photo's Alan,

It looks like Massey was well represented at the Royal Norfolk Show this year, nice to see the harvesting and haymaking displays and I notice a nice ex Lincolnshire 744 pulling the Dickie hay turner, did you have a 701 baler there too?

Malcolm.

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

Another day at The Norfolk Show where our local vintage club ( The Starting Handle Club ) won Best Machinery Trade Stand in the Show.

It's down to a lot of hard work by our Committee and we have a lot to thank them for.

The guy holding the cup is our Chairman Dick Hewitt.

I think the Tractor Steward was in the Military the way he has lined the tractors up. Even the gear sticks on the Ferguson-Browns and T 20 were in line but the cameraman didn't make a good job of taking the photo.

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

I went to a Show at Long Melford on Saturday which is about thirty miles from us.

There was a MF 735 Combine (not the one that I had seen previously as that was a M-H) a MF 168. MF 185 and a Ferguson with a Bulldozer which I thought was unusual.

Waiting to see some nice photos from the Expo.

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

This last weekend the Starting Handle Cluib held their Summer Show at Bob Parkers premises at Marsham, Norfolk.
It was and excellent weekend, enjoyed by all but we had a thunder storm at lunch time on Sunday which brought the proceeding to a close which was a great shame.

Here are some photos. A M-H 27 Special with Mr Robert Miller driving it with Bob standing by, Bob's Corn Picker, Swather, A Sail Reaper and a line of M-H tractors.
