Earlier in the year I posted some pics of the world speed record main line railway engine. Today we went on the narrow guage Bala Lake railway. This was originally a mainline standard guage railway until closed in the 1960s. Then in the 1970s, because it ran along the length of the longest natural lake in Wales, narrow gauge rail was relaid as a tourist attraction.
The engine pulling the train today was an ex slate quary engine (Maid Marian) from near where we live - from the Llanberis slate quarry where Gary E, Joe P and Steve M have visited with us. It was a cool clear day and the views were nothing short of fantastic.
Also shown is a photo of the engine in its working days in the quarry which is now hanging in the railway station.
