RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

As Chairman of The Carrington Steam and Heritage Rally display I had to fly our flag and here is the display of the three Sawyer Massey tractors currently in England, my 20-40 and 11-22's owned by Bob Parke and Gerald Gregory together with a few other interesting steel wheeled feature tractors.

Bob and Alan put a large display on for "The Starting Handle Club" of Norfolk and here are a few of their Massey, Wallis and feature tractors.

Saving the best till last especially for Joe, Tom and all other Wallis enthusiasts it was a very special memorable occasion at Newark.
The last of the three ex Larry Weber "Dome Valley Museum" in Arizona, Wallis Cub's serial number 1624 made it's debut appearance in the feature tent, finally mechanically restored and running here in England and heading to it's new home in a Museum in Germany.

Malcom,

Thanks for all the great photos.  Question from me driven from one of the photos in the next to last post.  What would appear to be 44 row-crop conversion to a 744...  Do you know the story behind that tractor?

THanks,

JB

Malcolm:

Wow that made my day to see the old Cub all back together!! Tom sent me a video of it running about a month or more ago and it didn't have the gas tank on it at that time and was running on LP!! It was a short video but at least I got to hear it run..

Looks a bit different, but I can't believe after all those years went buy and even after a restoration the bird droppings are still on the steering wheel.. Now that is keeping it as original as possible!!

Did they loose the hitch? Didn't that one have a quick hitch like mine? Too bad it is going so far away, I doubt I will ever see it again in person but one never knows...

Joe

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

John,

The 744 High Arch Rowcrop is a very rare and scarce tractor here in UK, from memory I believe many were made and sent to South Africa for "The Ground Nut Scheme" and this is one which missed the boat and remained here in England.

Joe,

Glad you tuned into the website last night, yes it brought back many memories for me of our winter MCA gathering in Yuma in 2005 and a good photo you posted of the tractor sitting at the entrance to Larry's home and Stuart on his first trip across the pond with me.

The mechanical restoration of this tractor has been a chequered one, which I will not discuss on here, but several parts were "lost" along the way, including the radiator, differential and front Bear, not sure if the hitch was on that one or not in Yuma, will have to check my photo's. So my tractor has been used to pattern some of these parts for completion of the project and what an engineering project to make a new diff.
After all this it is great to see it out and running, but one thing will make you smile Joe, Sunday evening whilst loading up my tractor I noticed they had the top cover off the gearbox as the Cub was struggling to move, eventually they got her rolling again,  just as you have experienced with yours.

RE:Massey's around the UK Shows in 2013.

Here is another very original off farm Red Pacemaker seen at the recent Newark event owned for many years by Geffrey Giblin of Essex, he brought it to our 150th M-H Anniversary show in 1997 with his grain binder.

Note the original binder hitch on the back of this tractor supplied new with a M-H binder for what make of tractor the binder was being attached to.

I have the very same original hitch  on my shelf for a 12-20 which came new with our M-H binder, the binder parts list them for many makes of tractor, does any of these survive in the US and Canada? as I have never seen one on my travels over the years.

Also note the British vaporisor shields to help prevent the icing up of the carburetor in cold weather

Here is something for the Ferguson enthusiasts, a very nice Ferguson Vineyard tractor with a Ferguson rear link box loaded with apples displayed on the Ferguson Club's stand at the recent end of season Newark Show.
