RE:Massey signs

Here is the very first M-H item in my collection which I bought in the USA, it was 1992 and the first time I had ever been to Portland Indiana, Tom and Jerry Erickson had a huge stall of literature, around the tables were some quality signs for sale and I thought "how the hell am I going to get that M-H sign on the coach and into the aeroplane" to come back to England, well my worries was over as Charles English Snr from Evansville Indianna, crated it up with several other nice items and sent it to South Wales, good job I was with an old collector who had bought several tractors from him in the 1970's / 80's.
We did manage to fill our suitcases with literature and the prices were a little different then.

RE:Massey signs

Today I have the first Massey Harris British dealer sign which I bought back in 1986 at an Estate auction near Preston in Lancashire.
These signs have a very nice wooden framework holding the tin sign in place, this one is single sided, I have another which is double sided with a much simpler wooden outer framework.

RE:Massey signs

Hi Malcolm,

Your sign has some little differences from mine!  can I assume yours is older or was it just coming from a different part of the world??  They are built the same but have different lettering and of a different language!!

RE:Massey signs

Gary,

Your sign is of French origin and mine is definately British and my guess is they are both of the same period.

For todays posting here is a large diameter round M-H sign, about four feet in diameter made of hardboard on a wooden frame with raised hardboard letters, many years ago John found three of these with an old dealer in South Wales, two are hanging in my shed and he has one.I have often wondered if they were for exhibition show stands?

What's happened to the buttons AGAIN?????

Here's another MF hanger for their balers.  Shown are a round baler and their in line small rectangular baler.   Most of these hangers are two sided.

RE:Massey signs

As you say John the reply buttons are getting in very short supply!!

Following on from yesterday and the UK round hardboard covered signs, today is a much smaller version, on one of our Massey trips to Scotland we came across two of these which are about 18 inches in diameter, the condition of one of them was not so good with one of the letters missing.
Our usual  practise to determine who was to own the best one, the coin had to be tossed and you can guess I lost, so this is the one with the letter "r" missing, so we now have one in the east and the other in the west of the UK, so far not come across anymore.

RE:Massey signs

Firstly an appeal to the powers that be - some buttons please - having to scrill back two pages now!

This is my favourite hanger made for the 150th anniversary.  They seem to have not been widley distributed and it took me a few years to track one down - in Canada if I remember correctly.  I think I persuaded a kindly MF dealer that he really didn't need it and that it would have a better resting place in my shed!  It is probably about six foot long.
