There was two Massey Harris No 2 tractors in the Saturday sale, the first one sold was the repainted one which has been seen in various publications and on a calendar in recent years, the Buda engine block looked like it had been cracked with frost and filled with body filler before painting, the paintwork now well mellowed it made a respectful $45,000

The last lot of the days sale was the No 2 project tractor which looked like it had been robbed of parts to restore the first one, in the sale photo's the cylinder head was missing, on the sale day it had been found and placed on the tractor, over the years the radiator had been replaced with a none original type, but this tractor has great potential and sold realistlicly at $18,000 and I understand it is now well on the way to be running soon.

Here a few photographs from the Friday auction of the gas engines, there was one nice Type 1 M-H 3HP engine in amongst many others, from memory I think it sold around the $2,600 mark, it was missing it's crank gaurd, exhaust and box of sparks!!. It was a lovely sunny and warm day and these engines together with many early tractor parts was sold around each lot and a bunch of literature in the tent, some very interesting early gas tractor and steam literature, no Wallis litearture and only a few later 1940's M-H Buyers Guides.

There was three M-H GP's sold on the Saturday auction, .

Lot number 121 was a flat head missing it's radiator and carburetor but fitted with a corn cultivator and skeleton steel wheels, sold very well for $12,000

Lot number 122 was a OHV older restoration tractor on steel wheels, sold for $13,500

Lot number 123 was a flat head on full steel with extensions, sold for $8500

The third and final day of the auction started Sunday morning with the piles of steel wheels and parts around the yard, following the rain the previous day it made getting around a little more difficult, the photo's below were all taken on the Friday whilst the sun was shining.

Once through the steel wheels it was to the long line of "bone yard" or "hedgerow tractors", first in line was Lot No 2001 the Wallis Cub Junior, serial number 12737, requiring major restoration this sold very well at $8,000.

Lot No 2102 the Wallis K sold for $2,500,

Lot No 2057 M-H 20-30 No 66480 sold for $1,000

Lot No 2065 Wallis 12-20 with GP 4WD extensions sold for $300

Lot No 2107 M-H Green Pacemaker No 107854 on steels a good tractor with lots of potential made $1,100

A very original 101 on full steel with lugs in a box on the platform, that tractor would really clean up and sparayed with oil would make a very nice example, hope it does not get painted.

Some other very rough 12-20's and the remains of another GP.

I would have liked to fly out to the sale but I just decided to stay home and work so I can pay for the next purchase.

all three sawyer massey's I guess are in Minnesota. Last weekend I made it to albany and checked out the two little ones there. They have started to work on them this weekend and as of last night both engines are out and taken apart. The second one did have the serial  plate in a 5 gallon bucket of parts broken in three pieces. It was quite the bucket of parts. Several spare SM parts and at the bottom a few #2 pieces. And as luck would have it we just had those cast so I didn't need them anymore.

My friend bought me the wallis k block on the sale since I needed a spare for one of my projects but I guess after the sale and before the truck got there to haul it home somebody decided they needed it more than I so if anybody hears anything I would really like to find it. Serial number I think was 15084. It seems there must be a wallis curse at aumann auctions of wallis stuff disappearing or getting damaged before pickup I'm glad it wasn't a whole tractor like last year!

Thank you Malcolm for all the pics of the Erdle Auction!!  I hang my head in shame for not attending the auction.  Although, there was nothing on my bucket list that I really had to have, it would have been something to see all the rare tractors presented for sale.  Unfortunately, priorities changed at the last minute and the trip was not to be!!

Sorry we missed you Malcolm but since you had already smuggled the cream into the states you could have at least sent it on over to Indiana!!

Sorry to hear your story on the Wallis K engine block Tom, we all know it is the buyers responsibility at the drop of the hammer, unfortunately a lot of the trust we used to have amongst collectors seems to be slipping away, very sad world.

Well Gary sorry to hear of your "priority change" you certainly missed an experience of interest, anyone with a glimmer of interest in early old iron of all makes and sizes found it an exceptional auction in Canandaigua. I have only posted photographs of the Massey related tractors on here, but they were only a very small part of this huge auction of "very rare" and "one of a kind" tractor, it was great to see them all out in the field.

With regard to the strawberries and cream, they were delicious and the only thing I should of done, was to mail you the empty carton!!!!!!
Missing that opportunity now you will have to wait until your next visit across the pond to experience the thick Jersey cream.

Well does anyone recognise this fine gentleman admiring the No 2 at the Erdle auction?

On the Sunday morning just before the sale started, some how we bumped into each other and conversation rapidly flowed, I soon learnt this was the gentleman instrumental in the advertising and searching for a new home in the Massey Preservation scene of a certain corn picker and combine harvester which were destined for a new home overseas.

I am sure several people will want to say a big thank you to Robert (Bob) White Jr and the Miller family.

Thanks Bob and great to meet you, I know you are one of the watchers on this great site, so Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
