RE:Downunder Masseys

I am enjoying reading everyone on the other side of the world playing in the snow, while we are desperatelyseeking rain and avoiding the heat down under.  I thought I might share some pictures of an open day I had last weekend.  This was a media launch for the large Queensland Heritage Rally later in October.  i had a few of my Massey and non-Massey items working over the weekend.  I hope the photos come through.  i cant ssem to get them downloaded from the apple devices anymore

RE:Downunder Masseys

I tried the old linseed oil treatment on the 4HP Sundial, made by HV McKay Massey Harris of Sunshine Australia.  I think it looks quite nice in original condition.  I have now also acquired a 3 HP Massey Type 2 which runs, but an older restoration which needs a good tidy up. I have also just acquired a 2HP Green Sundial.

RE:Downunder Masseys

Hi Joe, you and I seem to be the only 2 in the world having trouble posting photos..  I'm trying to attach a pic as a trial from my iPad.  This is just a trial

RE:Downunder Masseys

Hi all, I am chasing some clarification regarding the 81/82 tractors,  I have an 82, S/No 435021.  I have been offered an 81 s/no 435019. The tag states 81S. It is also duel fuel.

I will attach a few photos for your professional opinions.  It certainly looks like another 82 to me, but with 81 on the tag, and an 82 S/no.

I welcome all feedback.  Regards  Buck

RE:Downunder Masseys

Buck,

You seem to have all the good luck on finding all the very desirable tractors, must have been a lot sold in your area...

Looks to me like they grabbed the wrong tag when it was stamped at the factory as it looks to be a 82 to me. Wouldn't be surprised if it was on the same load from the factory as your other one being that close in serial numbers. Does the serial number on top of the transmission match the number on the tag? I'm guessing it does and they just grabbed the wrong tag when it was stamped.

I have seen several cases now where Serial numbers were goofed from the factory, even on some pacemakers where the serial number on the tag does not match the serial number stamped on the frame underneath it.

Now you just need to find Serial number 435020 and you will have three in a row!! How cool would that be.....

Joe

RE:Downunder Masseys

I agree with you both Joe and Buck.  You can clearly see the kerosene fuel tank which makes it the dual fuel and therefore should be considered a model 82 not 81.

Good score!  Let us know if you happen to find any blue paint on those anywhere.

Drew

RE:Downunder Masseys

Hi all,  I have just bought a nice original 55 D as a running tractor, as soon as I get it home , I will share the serial numbers.  It looks like I can now add photos from my iPad. Looks like a clean up and an oily rag finish.  Regards Buck

RE:Downunder Masseys

Buck,

Nice find!! I really like the fact that it still has the Sunshine decal on the tank, very cool!
You must be ready to build another shed as your collection is growing fast. Do you have any other Massey Collectors near by for competition or are you the only Massey man in your area? I really like the "Maze" Sheller, not many of them in captivity now days especially with it saying "Maze" on it. Steve Miller has one just like it but don't know what the number is right off hand but it really shells good and is easy to crank.

Keep up the good work and thanks for posting, I really enjoy seeing all things Massey related from different parts of the world.

Thanks,
Joe

RE:Downunder Masseys

Hi Joe,  thanks for the reply.  I am the only Massey man around my area, however there is another big Massey collector in Western Australia ( about 2000miles away) and several small collectors scattered around. There is a big Massey Ferguson collector not far away, but his Collectin starts when mine finishes.

Until a few years ago, no one was interested in Masseys.  There were a lot of John Deere, Case, International collectors etc and no one wanted Masseys.

Here on the Darling Downs we have broad acre, so the larger Massey tractors were prevalent, including, 203, 55, 555 , 744, 745.

We never saw any of the 333,444 series in Australia and its interesting to see your LPG tractors which I have never seen over here.  Living on the plains, we need to travel to find the orchard style and smaller tractors.

The only 2 that I need for a full "Australian" set are a 555 and a Challenger.  The 555's are still in use here and still bring good prices, whereas the Challengers are very few and far between.  I've only seen 2.........but I'll keep looking...regards Buck

RE:Downunder Masseys

Joe, you asked if I was the only Massey collector in my area. I'm not sure where my area starts or finishes. Australia is an island, so that must be my area. Here is newest in my Massey stable.  I just came back from picking up this 20k, older restoration. It was fairly local...only just under 1000miles away.  That's  what we do to get the last couple in a complete Aussie set.

The only model now is the 555 which I think is fairly local. I have put the challenger in the fairyland list and that will certainly cost me big time, both financially and with the wife( bless her understanding sole).

More importantly, this 20 k, went under a flood recently, so, I hope I have caught it in time. Next week, I'll need to pull it down and clean it out.

Regards Buck
