RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

I have learned a little bit about Larry Maasdam`s Pacemaker. The serial number is 201004, that is a vineyard number so it must be a vineyard not an orchard model. Unstyled Orchard Pacemaker numbers ran from 200251 to 200402 and unstyled Vineyard Pacemakers ran from 201001 to 201041, so this makes Larry`s Pacemaker the fourth Vineyard model built. This tractor has the early style front wheels, flip over oil filler cap and engine block water drain which is farther forward on early Pacemakers. I believe this one has been red from new but some green was found under the red.

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Malcolm, That looks a very nicely restored Orchard Pacemaker of Dennis Brown`s, looks like a bit later one with the pressed steel hand hole covers. Do you know the serial number of that one? That driver certainly does look a suspicious looking character, I an sure I have seen him before somewhere but I just can`t think where.

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Many thanks Graham, I must get to have a look at that tractor in Iowa on one of my trips, your confirmation of serial number is great, also I had not realised about the cylinder block drain tap location, I will now have to check my three Green PA's  tonight.

I am sure Dennis will chime in and fill us in on his serial number and maybe some history, he did a real fast restoration on that tractor and was good to drive it through the parade at Baraboo.

Malcolm.

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Graham,

Block drain tap in the forward position on Green PA 107862, same position as my 12-20's, both Green PA's 108207 and 109530 in the further back position which carries through to the styled Red PA's.

Now is this the same on early unstyled green CH's? maybe Joe, Dennis or Tim can chime in here with their early serial number green CH's and confirm drain tap positions.

We keep learning!!!!

Malcolm.

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Here are two pictures to show the two different positions of the drian tap. One more 12-20 feature on early Pacmakers.

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Well here is a litte bit of info from Malcolm and Graham.

the green OPA owned by dennis came from washington in 2010. I will post a picture of it when I first seen it in person (before Dennis saw it!) Serial number is 200355.

Also on the vineyards.
201019 and 201029 both have the newer locaton for the engine coolant drains.
201019 has the cast wheels like dennis OPA and 201029 has cast rears with the newer style front wheels with the tin hub cap.
201019 has the same tin as the Yuma VPA #201031

Does anybody have a picture of #201004 before it was restored? I have been chasing a green OPA or maybe even a VPA in California that looks identical

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Thanks Graham and Tom for the photographs and  detail,

I notice the reply button has gone again from the bottom of your last reply Tom, so trying a reply on Graham's last post, hope Gary is ready to work the bugs out again.

For today here is a photograph taken at Mount Pleasant Iowa show last August, it is a very nice M-H 12-20 serial number 104010 and good to see it being run  through the parade by some enthusiastic young collectors.

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Back to the block drain tap locations.  Here's a shot of my early Pacemaker, s/n 107129, showing the tap in the forward location.   Second photo from my later, 1937 Green Challenger, s/n 132378, showing it in the further back location.

Seems consistent with what was posted earlier.

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Just to revive this 12-20 thread here is a wonderful period photo of a 12-20 overhere in the UK.  It was found and sent to me by good friend Lyn Jones down in mid Wales.

Note that it is fitted with cast steel wheel centres back and front which were standard fitment in the UK with the advent of rubber tyres.  When rubber tyres became available the tractors were sent over from Racine without wheels to be fitted with these British made wheels.  When so fitted out they had much greater lugging power because of the weight of them.

RE:Massey-Harris 12-20

Many thanks Lyn for another great old photograph from the working period of the M-H 12-20, a real family gathering on there I am sure.

I wonder what the wording is you can just see on the trailer drawbar?
