RE:hi altitude tractors

I dont see a 5 - s/n hard to make out but top line looks to me to be 44G1R and s/n 44602 - did I miss a 5 somewhere - anyone ask the seller for engine block s/n

RE:hi altitude tractors

To Bill's point about the domed pistons, I would have my doubts about the engine block/pistons being original.

Once you zoom in on the serial number there is a 5.  44G5R.  I also believe there is a gouge  right on top of the 5 which looks like the "1" you make refrence to.  Check it again and see if you can see the 5 after you zoom in.

RE:hi altitude tractors

Look just to the right of the G it is faint but it is there. I can see it even with my bad eyes. I think this tractor would look good sitting next to a 22 Kerosene....

RE:hi altitude tractors

OK - I see the 5 - - I was distracted by the precision of the "gouge" - do you think it is possible that the gouge is really a 1 overstrike of the 5 - I have an AC with such an overstrike where you can read both numbers - I sent the guy a question asking for s/n off block.

RE:hi altitude tractors

Joe, I think you are right about it looking good sitting next to a 22K.  But there are too many projects and not enough time and money.  I will have to pass.  Besides we already have a good runnin' 44!

RE:hi altitude tractors

Anyone try to read the numbers on block - it looks like MHL260G can't read s/n but starts with 7 ? What is MHL vs MHA - I've seen it on a 444 with MHL277

But only HA I have engine s/n off is an earlier which shows MHA260G but has a 5 stamped spaced after the 5 digit engine s/n

RE:hi altitude tractors

Gouge vs Overstrike.  No domed pistons.  Engine block torn down.

Lots of questions.....

RE:hi altitude tractors

We have an MH 101 Junior which I have been advised on good authority some years ago is a high altitude tractor.

On the serial number plate it reads:

101 Jnr - 5
379190

The 5 is supposed to denote high altitude - can anyone confirm or otherwise for me?

John

RE:hi altitude tractors

John

the 101senior  and 101jr. had high compression heads for hi Alt.  its in the parts book

check your head on the engine.

bill

the 5 stand for 5000ft

trivia: the farmalls had 1000  5000 8000 ft pistons.

RE:hi altitude tractors

Thanks Bill,

I'll check it out - what am I looking for on the head???
Thanks
John
