RE:Wallis Tractors

Joe,

Yes I am now very content with my Cub!

I have seen reference to some electric powered tractors like the Wallis you show but can't recall if they were Wallis or not - I think not.  Seems a mighty clumsy set up!!

The chaps with the "Russian" Wallis tractor certainly look Russian.

RE:Wallis Tractors

If my observations on e-Bay are correct, Young Mr. Seaberg has just acquired a Wallis Foldout Brochure.  The cover being Blue.  The reason I bore all of you with this information is,  in the testimonials of the Wallis Tractors the first from the GREAT STATE of IOWA is my Great Grandfather Ernest H Pace discussing the use of his Wallis Cub JR.  Serial 10056.  As he states built in 1916.  His description seems a little flamboyant ( now you all know I come but it honestly !!!! )  All that remains of 10056 is 2 sleeves 3-4 valves, and the Bennett carburetor.  At the end of 10056's working life two block men from Massey-Harris came to our  farm, disassembled the Tractor, and took certain parts back to Racine, to be checked out for wear.  All of which was told to my family had no excessive wear.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Tim,

I got that exact brochure in my collection, pretty cool to see someone you know mentioned in an original brochure even better when your related to them!!

Malcolm,

When I was at your place we were talking about the early Wallis pulleys and the one that Austin West built from scratch. Here is a couple pictures of what was stamped on my Cub Jr and one of my Wallis Ks and also some brochures I have on The American Pulley Co. Also pictured is a pulley scale for getting the correct pulley for the application you working with.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Malcolm,

Looking at the steering shaft support for the Cub jr and both my Cub jrs with the single front have the small support just as the one you showed me but my Cub jr wide front has the same one as the Wallis Ks. If you look close at them the single front tractors are not as steep of an angle than the wide front as the shaft in much lower in the front on the Cub jr wide front just as on the Model Ks. But I still haven't figured out your round spoke steering wheel question, it must have been replaced at some point in it's life but from the looks of it with all the rust it must have been very early in it's life. Here are some pictures of my supports.

The last five pictures are of your support with the remains of the round spoke steering wheel, maybe Tom can shed some light on this.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Where did you get your main tank? Is someone reproducing them?

RE:Wallis Tractors

Dan,

Are you looking for a main fuel tank for a Wallis? If so call Ervin Chew he makes them for just about all the Wallis Tractors.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Well, we have an update to my last post about the parts still remaining from the Cub Jr.  About a month ago we finally built a Machine Shed here at the Pace Farm, and you guessed right that it is not large enough.  After the dirt work was completed I was going around cleaning up bricks, rocks, and anything that just did not belong, and came across a rear hand hole cover for the Cub Jr,  that was kinda neat.  So,  I am in the Shed levelling off the dirt around the outside wall before I begin to put a gravel base in it and notice something made of steel half buried.  I grab the shovel, and dig it up and to my happy surprise is the original Water Pump Wrench.   WOW   It's ugly rust, and pitted, but what the heck, right?  The Cub Jr must have been dismantled and then buried somewhere out by the old barn,  after burying the old buildings we never ran across it.  R I P I guess.  Tim

RE:Wallis Tractors

Joe,

Many thanks for confirming the detail and posting the brochure and photo of The American Pulley Co, that's the first time I have seen it stamped into the face of a pulley. These pulleys are often seen in North America on different makes of tractors and machines and great that you confirmed my thoughts of them being a bought in part by J I Case.
As you saw from the photos on your trip Austin West did an amazing job of fabricating a complete new pulley for his Cub Junior using one of mine as a pattern, several hours of cutting, grinding and welding, really shows what can be done with time and patience.

I look forward to any replies on the round spoke Cub Junior steering wheel.

Malcolm.

RE:Wallis Tractors

Nice Find Tim!  You need to buy one of those metal detedtors and start digging again!!

GTE

PS Hope Mt Pleasant was good!!  I will get there someday!!

RE:Wallis Tractors

Malcolm,

been kind of slow on the Wallis thread so I thought I would give you a little inspiration to get excited about working on your Cub jrs. I've been working on the Cub jr from Montana a little lately SN 10094 it is starting to look like a tractor again. Got the engine set back in and the magneto set today now need to put the head on and other stuff. The real hold ups now are the gas tank and radiator.
