RE:Downunder Masseys

Few more Masseys down under. My 2 boys are home on school holidays at the moment and while I am at work they got my 203 and my styled 25 engines unseized (just dry seized) , so hopefully 2 more restored very shortly. Does any know the original grill mesh colour for the styled 25, was it red or black? I have seen it with both, but prefer the original colour if I can. Buck

RE:Downunder Masseys

Found a few more pictures of Aussie Massey for you to look at. An interesting front end loader mounted on a pacemaker, seen at a local auction. Also a nicely restored styled 25 owned by one of our club members. Buck

RE:Downunder Masseys

Hi Gary, I came across the Queens Head galvanised iron stamp on the Sydney Powerhouse Museum website. It was manufactured by John Lysaght industries on Newcastle and Port Kembla here in Australia (still going today). There is quite a history on the site. A bit too much to cut and paste on this site, but basically manufactured between 1937-1955. Hope this helps. Buck

RE:Downunder Masseys

Hi Buck,

Two things:

#1  Thanks for the info on the steel stamp. I guess it is a good advertising piece if they put that big stamp on each piece of steel!  I will look into it more.

#2  We just started a registry for the MH 200 Series tractors and would love to include your 203 on the list.  Would you share its serial number?  We currently have 118 tractors listed but we know there are more out there.  Yours is one!!

Thanks

Gary

Buck,

Interesting loader on the PA.  You were all inventive down there!  In my Industrials book there is a pic of a Challenger with a front mounted crane taken somwhere down under.

John

RE:Downunder Masseys

Hi Gary, Happy to help. I have a new sense of enthusiasm since joining the site. I find myself in the shed everyday now playing Massey. My 203 S/No is 98997. Spent most of its working life at a machinery dealer at Pittsworth (close By) as a crane tractor with a rear mounted crane. It has modified fenders, pedals, steering and platforms, but I was lucky enough to get the original equipment with the tractor, so it should be an easy restoration. I haven't seen too much on 102 Senior tractors on the site, I believe that the majority were for export.Buck

RE:Downunder Masseys

Hi Buck,

Glad we could kindle that fire again.  You really have to watch these guys!! They will have you on your back digging through dirt, grease and grime just to find a number on a casting!!

Thanks for the 203 number, if you don't mind, we will add it to the list!! Thanks

Also thanks for the great information on the steel trademark stamps.  I am doing a little prodding on my own to find out more about them, their uses and the information they tell.  Reading the Museum piece makes it sound as though there might be more value in the stamp than the whole binder board itself!!  (No, I won't be cutting it up any time soon.)  I do think mine is definitely nicer than the museum piece they illustrated!

Thanks for being a part of the web site.  Glad we are able to regenerate your enthusiasm. Have fun!!

Gary

RE:Downunder Masseys

Hi Buck, I am curious how you guys haul your tractors around down under. Most of us tend to use what we call "goose-neck" trailers over here in the States that we pull with our "pick-up trucks" and "Chassis-Cab" vehicles. Do you guys have anything along these lines? Or are you more like the UK types of trailers? I'm attaching a couple of photos. One is my Dodge 3500 1-Ton Dually Pick-up with my goose-neck, dual-tandem trailer, hauling my 44 GR, 55 GS, and little MF 10 Lawn & Garden Tractor (LGT). The second photo is my trailer hooked to a RAM 4500 chassis-cab test truck from work, hauling my 55 GS and 555 DS. Thanks, John B.

RE:Downunder Masseys

Hi John, We use all types of transport here. We also have the gooseneck type trailers. Our "pick up trucks" are utes (short for utility vehicle), however, I have attached a photo of my Dodge and dads 55K. I usually tow a car trailer behind as well.
