RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Keith,
Thanks for that.
I read in John,s book Massey Legacy Vol 1 that M-H had a manufacturing agreement with The Iowa Cream Separator Co to manufacture cream separators from 1905 and I wondered if they continued to use Iowa's wrenches but from your book it looks as though M-H made their own wrenches for the cream separators that they made.

I have a list of thirty two wrenches that M-H supplied with their cream separators but in my list I didn't have down that the monkey wrench #C 1287 was also supplied with the #1 separator. But I have it down now. Thanks.

I have a part #C1561 down as a wrench with two nut sizes one end but I don't have down what it was supplied with. It is similar to  C 1717 and C 1744 so I think it must be a cream separator wrench.

I think in my wrench list I won't put anything about Iowa Cream Separator Co wrenches just the ones M-H made. What do you others think.

Thanks

Alan

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Malcolm,

That is a lovely spanner (wrench ) that you have there.

I have got it listed and there is a P 4973A which as far as I can see is the same. I wonder why M-H put an A onto the end of some of the numbers when they seem to be the same.

Thanks

Alan

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Here is another recent addition Alan, you may well have this large Johnston Harvester wrench on your list already.
The first number is very unclear on the back of the wrench, but think it is 630.

Malcolm.

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Here we are in 2017 and looking back through the list of subjects on here its a long while since anyone up-dated Alan's wrench (or spanner here in England) thread, amazing how time flies.

Anyway I know Alan has been very busy through the latter part of 2016 and early 2017, he has spent hours researching and putting all this wrench information together.

Cleaning up a few wrenches this weekend which I have gathered up over the past couple of years reminded me about this excellent Massey Harris Wrench thread.

Thank you for the photo of the spanners (wrenches). As you know the list is on a memory stick and my job now is to go to a printer and get some copies printer.

It's been a bit of a slog but I have really enjoyed doing the research and I am very grateful for the help that I have been given in getting this far.

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Hi Alan,

I was wondering how you were doing on the tools project.  It will probably never end as people will always being finding things that relate to the Massey equipment.  It is a daunting task but you are well ahead of the game!  ANy idea as to production time??

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Gary,

As you say this spanner (wrench ) list will never end as there is always going to be some new information that will turn up and will need to be added.

However at the moment the information is on a memory stick and is waiting for me to design a cover for this book and then for me to take it to a printer. It will take a few months before a book appears I think but things are happening as I am keen to get the project finished now.

Thanks to everyone that has helped me to get this far.

Alan

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Well at last after many years and with a lot of help from friends I have managed to get the book printed. It is called Massey-Harris Wrenches and their Associated Companies. It consists of twenty four chapters and two hundred and fifty two pages. Some of the companies mentioned only have loose ties with M-H others were taken over. I have put the part numbers in with the implements and machines that they were supplied with and where I have a photo or an image of the wrench I have included that. The bad part is I will have to charge £25 plus shipping at cost to cover my costs. Any questions about the book I would be pleased to answer. Alan
