RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Here are two other adjustable wrenches from my collection. The first wrench is marked JH Co. (Johnston Harvestor) but is also shown on page106 of the M-H Repair Catalog 1-H and is also labeled as 123C with the steel rake. The second wrench is also a Johnston Harvestor wrench that looks like wrench C but is shorter, only about 7" long.

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for the pictures. That catalog you have seems like a very useful thing to have.

In making this list I will make a list of all the M-H wrenches that I know about and then carry on with other companies that were associated with M-H like Johnson Harvester, J I Case Plow Wks etc. That way a wrench may get listed a couple of times or more under the same part # but with J H Co or J I Case Plow Wks on the handle instead of <M-H>. Unless someone has a better idea.

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Hello Alan,

Great to see you making good progress with the help of other Massey Collectors on the mamoth wrench project,

Just  a bit of info for you

Wrench A:- Is one of a set of three supplied new with a M-H No 23 plough.
"         B:- Cream Seperator came with my No 6.
"         F:- Is the same as "A" but with a "Robinson modification" to one end.

You mentioned the Z435 being available in both mallable and steel, I have both and will measure the steel one for you.

Keep up the good work.

Malcolm.

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Alan,

The Z435 flat steel wrench measures 8 inches in length, the large end measures 7/8 and the small end 5/8 so we have established a difference between the two styles.

The Z435 is only lightly stamped into the steel one, the mallable one is raised letters from memory? too cold to go out into the shed to check tonight so please correct me if I am wrong.

Happy spanners Alan

Malcolm.

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Hello Malcolm,

Thanks for your help. I can add a bit more information to the list. I was wondering if I would ever find out what those flat steel wrenches like "A" were used for but now I  have a start. I guess they would have been sent out with other implements as well as a #23 Plow so if anyone out there has anymore info on them I would appreciate it..

I have a mallable Z 435 and on mine the letters are raised. It is eight inches. The small jaw is 3/4 inch and the large jaw one inch.

I'll continue to make a list of M-H wrenches and their associate companies but I'm not going to take on a list of Robinson Modifications Ha Ha!!!!

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Does anyone have a photo of wrench # M 555 with Made in Canada or Canada on it. i think there five different versions of this wrench. I have photos of four of them but not this one.
Thanks
Alan

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

I do not have a version with Canada on it the 4 versions I have are below.
The first two wrenches have nothing on the back, the next two pictures are the same wrench showing front and back sides.

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Hello Wayne,

Thanks for the photos. I,ll keep trying to find a picture of a M 555 with Canada on it. There is one in Rathbone vol 2. There might be more than five versions if you take into account of whether the wrench had <M-H> on it or not.

As I am sure you know this is not the only wrench that had several different versions. Wrench # A 23 did.

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

Does anyone know what implements the following wrenches were supplied with:-

R 274 Double Open Ended Wrench
TU 525 Long Handle C Key Wrench
J 672 Double Open Ended Wrench
P 672 Double Open Ended Wrench 19" Long Malleable
C 705 Wrench Socket one end and Square Driver the other 5.5" Long
J 728 Double Open Ended Wrench 15" Long

I beleive them to all be Massey-Harris Wrenches.

The other thing is. Does anyone know who made the wrenches for M-H. I guess several companies. I doubt M-H made there own did they

Thanks

Alan

RE:Massey-Harris Wrenches

R274 is listed with the Left Hand side delivery rake but is also the sme part number for the fender for tooth on other rakes. It may be the same as 274A that came with No.3 side delivery rake, Continental Reaper, 3A corn binder and No 3 header. I will look for the other numbers later. I do have a J672 if you need a picture but do not know what it came with.
