Bob & Malcolm,
Sunday noon from Mansfield, Oh about 2.5 hrs. SE of Sauder Village. It rained hard here last night.
First I want to Thank You Bob for using the MCA to post latest news on The Great Planting. I know there were many man and lady hours putting the effort together and I'm sorry for all that effort to be wasted. Hopefully at the banquet and at meals lots of knowledge was shared and friendships enhanced.
As a non tractor owning MCA member I was really looking forward to the event. To watch equipment nearly as old or older (1947) than myself in action would have been fun.
The days of a straight furrow are seldom seen with no-till, chisel plow, etc. I can remember my Dad being proud of his straight rows and giving me "H" when mine didn't look as good.
I did get to step back in time a little this week. I brush hogged about 175 acres of wheat and oat stubble with lots of foxtail and green wheat strips out the back of a IH rotary combine. I drove a IH 5088 and 1086 repainted with 15' mowers and NO gps.
Mowing quickly got boring but many woodchuck (groundhog) holes kept me awake. I also mowed waterways in bean fields with the occational wash out slapping me around.l
Mowing along tree lines meant dogging limbs and big rocks thrown there over the decades. (rented properties) I still kept the rounds fairly straight while daydreaming of my youth, Dad, and the ole days.
Looking forward to July 2017. I hope to help you Bob take some pics so we can show Malcolm we can have fun in the "New World". Thanks also Charlie Cline for the rainy update.
