2017 MASSEY Exposition NC

Hi all!

Well if you didn't make the trip to North Carolina you missed another fun Massey Happening!!  The weather was great and the people putting on the show were exceptional.  Every time you turned around one of their members were asking if we needed anything or if they could get us something. They truly made sure all our needs were met.

Although the show was not the biggest we ever attended, what we saw was different.  There were 106 different exhibits on display with 76 being tractors.  The great thing was there were 66 different models in the spot light.  Talk about variety!!  The most common were 5 Ponies, 4 Ferguson 35s but surprisingly there the next largest model was the MF 1100!!  As it was in Indiana in 2014, the MF tractors are becoming a tractor of choice to show.  Along with these were a MH 55K, a 44 Orchard, two I-244's and a I-162.  The I-162 made number 12 found of the 25 made!!

Several people found some good Massey buys in the flea market area. Most were picked off early so you had to be looking for what you wanted!  There was a very nice MF 16 L&G for sale that could have come to Danville if there would have been room on the trailer!!

There were apples everywhere and most of them were free for the taking!  There is nothing better than a fresh apple on a beautiful day.

Although we needed to walk about 200 yards to the enclosed air conditioned building to see some of our indoor exhibitors, most all made the effort to see them and they came down the hill to see the exhibits, as well. The good thing about the short walk was the homemade fried apple pie booth!! WOW-what an experience!! . I had never had one before the show but not one day went by without enjoying one while we were there!!

Congratulations to the DeBruhl family for a great effort in serving as our hosts. The whole family was involved and had roles to play. It is no wonder the entire family was named Apple Country Antique Engine and Tractor Association Members of the Year at our banquet.  Congratulations to them all!

Larry Phillips, the Club President did a great job hosting the banquet on Friday night.  Everyone loved his white jacket and tie over his bib overalls!!

Special thanks go to the MCA members who donated items for the auction and to the MCA members who were the high bidders of those items.  MCA ended the evening with $1813.50 in the bank. Thank you for those who participated!!

Probably the most important part of the entire weekend was meeting some of our newest members to MCA and discovering their passion to Massey as much as some of us.  Again, just another good reason to move our shows around to give the same opportunities to the Massey collecting family as some of us have here in the Midwest.  They were truly excited about talking tractors, implements and anything Massey.  It was fun hearing and seeing their enthusiasm.   Sometimes you have to create the environment to have a good time. Being "Happy-Go-Lucky" will get you there!!

Great Show, Great effort, Great time!!

Thanks to all who helped make it a success.

Gary,

Were you at the same show as Jerry?

RE:2017 MASSEY Exposition NC

Well - I can't comment on whether the EXPO in NC was any good or not.  I was effectively banned from attending when the stupid authority there changed the date of the show after we had booked our air tickets.  It would have cost a prohibitive amount to change the tickets.

When I contacted them about this they were arrogantly dismissive and inconsiderate of our plight.  So I am pleased that I didn't put any $$$$$s into their grubby hands.

In the event we did a grand tour of Canada and the USA visiting old friends and contacts, collections and factories where the welcome was always warm.  We quite DEFINITELY saw more than we would have done in NC so in the end we were the winners.  Personally I felt that the show should have been pulled and the organisatuion left to rot - but not my decision!

RE:2017 MASSEY Exposition NC

I must say this is the "FIRST" time there has NOT been any photographs posted of the Annual Massey Expo in either the USA or Canada. I expect we shall eventually get to see some of the exhibits when the Expo is covered in the next issue of The Clipper, I hope Editor Rick Keating was there to capture the entire Show.

So for now the only photo I can share is of the pin badge, thanks Gary for thinking of us and allowing a bit of the 2017 Expo to travel back to England to be part of our collections.

As detailed before the fiasco of the date change in the end did us overseas visitors a great favour, we had a superb travelling Massey Expo for 2017, the drive West from Toronto to the AGCO factory in Jackson Minnesota was worthwhile in every aspect, a cold snowy morning scheduled tour of 1 1/2 hours turned into over 3 hours with a superb tour guide who went above and beyond to make sure we were well looked after, plus meeting another Massey Harris Collector friend from Holland there without knowing made for a very International factory Tour, Well done Geer for joining our group tour, we enjoyed your company for the rest of the day.
Also thanks to all the Massey Collectors we met and visited with on both the outward and return journeys to Minnesota, we covered a lot of miles and had a great travelling Expo, quite a different experience from what we originaly planned.

All the Best
Malcolm.

Malcolm I received one of those badges as well. Thank you very much Gary. Disappointing there aren't any photos of the 2017 Expo. Always nice to see what I have missed.I thought there would have been a lot of Orchard models from that part of the country but from Gary's list there weren't many. Perhaps my geography isn't as good as it should be. Alan

RE:2017 MASSEY Exposition NC

To my Massey family and friends I do appologize that there have not been any pictures of the 2017 EXPO  in North Carolina on the website.  As I have said before I am no photographer.  The pictures we took did not turn out to be website kind or quality.  I truly feel sorry for that.

I do know there were many pictures taken by folks that are much better at it than Marci and I are.  Hpefully some of them will still come forward, it sure would make some Massey enthusiasts happy.

I am quite sure Rick Keating will have some good coverage of the 2017 EXPO in the next issue of the "Clipper"

            Thanks for being understanding.
