2016 Side Trips--Fairs--Personal Collections--Interesting items

Open House at Wendell Kelch's in SW Ohio. Master restoration shop. One tractor I focused on I ALMOST BOUGHT!!! All I had to do was come up with the money I spent on an education, my twins education, plus all the beer and Hershey chocolate I ate.
You will also see pictures of pictures from event held my MHF in Georgetown, Oh

Pictures from National Threshers in Wauseon, OH late June 2016. The Sawyer-Massey was from area north of Niagara Falls in Canada--fairley long haul.
The twin drop decks loaded with steamers from Middlefield, Oh and Jonas Stutzman.
Jonas is a go too guy for steamers. Says he has four years work booked up. NICE shop.

RE:2016 Side Trips--Fairs--Personal Collections--Interesting items

Bob,

Many thanks for all the excellent Massey related photo's, now I can understand why I have not heard from you for a while, you've had some very good road trips and visits this spring and early summer, also seen some very rare and interesting items in some collections. Now you have been to Visit Wendell and seen his No 3, two years ago you saw the one here and now you will have to plan a trip to Ontario, then you can say you have seen all three known survivors at this time.

I guess you enjoyed the tour of Wendell's shop and collection? its amazing what he turns out of those premises, we even have his restoration work over here in England.

Keep the photo's rolling, we need some more momentum on here.

Malcolm.

RE:2016 Side Trips--Fairs--Personal Collections--Interesting items

Malcolm,

Thanks for all the positive words about photo's and travels. You do an excellent job with photo's with your "staging" or framing a specific model tractor and implements. Great example is the Anniversary thread with show units and your own loaded collection going to a show.

Your No.3 is how I first got invited to Wendell's. I called him up, told him I'd seen lots of MHF signage in his video's, and that I had seen a MH No. 3 in England. He said, you know Malcolm Robinson, when are you coming down?? I sure like his and his team's work and would love to be there when he fires a major renovation up and drives it on his airstrip. That Avery I pictured is now on a short vid being tested with a belt up. The owner of that Avery is 82 and pushes Wendell to get it done so "he can play with it before he dies". Amen
I will send you a personal note. I saw Bob Parke's picture on Facebook--modern guy!

I have some MHF nick knacks and homemades from my MF days 1974-1982.

RE:2016 Side Trips--Fairs--Personal Collections--Interesting items

Very nice collection of M-F memorabilia Bob from your days of working for M-F, one day you will possibly find time to relate some of your stories on here.

I really like your M-F triangles, hope they with all your other items are displayed in your home? The Ferguson clock should keep you in good time!!!

I have been following Wendell and the Avery restoration on Smokstak, but did not know the owner, great story thanks for sharing, I was surprised to see the photo of Wendell driving the F14 when he has so much more interesting iron in the barn, one piece I remember enjoying the drive on when I visited last was the I-H Autobuggy, shame M-H never got into anything like that.

All the Best

Malcolm.

RE:2016 Side Trips--Fairs--Personal Collections--Interesting items

Malcolm,
Thanks for positive words and ideas. You are right about his IHC collection and he just posted on Youtube vids of his wife Mary driving the Mogul and other big models.
His latest prize is that Red Pickup truck.

How about a look at another big collection in Richmond, Va. The Keystone Tractor and Truck is very nice with tractors from late 40"s till I think 1968. He does have some short timers like Gibson and Huber. You can't be "color blind" as he has AC, MHF, Case, IHC,
JD, MM, Oliver etc. He also has trucks, hot rods.
Building is HUGE and extremely clean. I paid $7 to get in. Many of you have probably been  there already.

I was planning a trip to George Schaaf auction this Sat. but have a funeral to attend.
Nothing really MHF, but many exotic big tractors nicely restored. The Aumann catalog looks fantastic. If anything like Jim Erdle pricing goes on, bring your loan officer with  you!!!

All the best, Malcolm.
Bob

RE:2016 Side Trips--Fairs--Personal Collections--Interesting items

Thanks for the photos, Bob!

How closely did you look over that MF 97 with the three chrome stacks??  What's going on there??

Cheers,

JB

RE:2016 Side Trips--Fairs--Personal Collections--Interesting items

John,

I think someone in the tractors history made up individual exhaust headers for that three cyclinder MM engine. I did not look at it as close as I should have or many MHF people would. I enjoyed the chrome BUT did realize it wasn't stock. I wanted to get the Ferguson sign in shot. I have sent another angle which won't help much.

Harvest time around corner John, time to make some coin for more toys------or restorations.

Also sent couple more truck pics. A Mr. Jones owns this collection. He also runs Abilene Truck Lines out of Richmond. Info says they run 400 trucks, but museum guy said up to 600 now.
Bob

RE:2016 Side Trips--Fairs--Personal Collections--Interesting items

Bob,

Great to hear from you and see some of your travels and places of interest along the way. I was wondering if you made the journey across to The Expo this year in Madison SD?

Well I too visited this museum in 2011 when on my way back up to Washington DC from Nashville TN, I must say I got quite a pleasant surprise when I walked through the doors of this very well set out and cared for museum, very different to many we see, this one the focus is on "the exhibits and presentation" rather than the numbers of visitors coming through the doors to sustain survival. The afternoon I was visiting there was just the two of us who paid and looked around in amazement, there most of the afternoon taking in all the makes and splendour of the restorations they did not cover the cost of the running expenses that afternoon. One guy even gave us the tour of the "back yard and storage area", we saw several items waiting for restoration.

Great private museum.

Sorry to hear you are unable to attend the Schaaf auction this Saturday, I am pretty sure there will be some top dollar items there, as you say nothing in the M-H line at all, looks like he is keeping the Sawyer Massey 20-40 for the time being.

Malcolm.

RE:2016 Side Trips--Fairs--Personal Collections--Interesting items

Malcolm,
I was pretty sure you had been there. Your comments are spot on. Prestine facilities I say.
I didn't see enough oil on floor under whole collection to change oil in my Simplicity lawn mower. All tires inflated. Staff guy said they average 25-30 people a day which doesn't pay the electric bill. They have a good web site. They are not in our AAA travel book.
Maybe they should advertize more BUT especially mention their is LOTS of shopping for women within a mile!!!

Mr. Malcolm, you had me thinking I lost more memory when I opened this thread at bottom and saw all these pictures I didn't remember posting! As I scrolled up I knew you had dipped into your library for pics that looked as if shot same day I was there.

What little I read on Schaaf auction was that this is THIRD one. He probably has that SM 20-40 somewhere. Would have been fun checking out unsold items.

Bob
