RE:M-H Tanks/Racine

Alan and Joe,

So far this is the only war time M-H tractor I have heard of with this plate fitted.

I understand your theory of steel wheels being used for years by farmers Joe, but I am wondering if this plate was fitted to tractors sent over from the USA under the Lease Lend Scheme for War effort and we know the War Agricultural Committee used a lot of "The Land Army Girls" for farm work whilst their husbands or partners were fighting for their country, so maybe this warning plate was just fitted to those tractors by the War Ag to educate the female driver.

Chris tells me the plate was fitted to the inside of the left hand mudgaurd (fender) when sat on the seat.

Anyone wanting quality reproduction tags or plates for their restoration projects check out Chris's website www.vintagebrassplates.co.uk he does excellent work from good digital photographs and measurements, so no need to send your old plate with risk of it being lost in the mail, he ships worldwide.

Malcolm.

RE:M-H Tanks/Racine

Hello Malcolm,

That seems like a logical explanation. Like the starting instructions on the fuel tank of a Standard Fordson which I think first appeared during the war.

Here is a pic which I'm sure you will have seen before. I saw it on the left hand wing of a Pacemaker in a Collection in Surrey in 2011.

RE:M-H Tanks/Racine

I've just had a note in from a friend in Oklahoma who has recently been on a visit to the 45th Infantry museum in that state.  Apparently there is an MH self propelled Howitzer there.  He was amazed at the size of it!

So if any of you drift down that way take a detour to have a look at it.  It should be well worth it

RE:M-H Tanks/Racine

My Oklahoma friend has just sent in these two photos of the MH Howitzer he saw at the military museum.  It certainly is a fine specimen.  So Gary - off you trot down to Okkie and get a bid in!

Something odd happened here - photos not come up - but if you click on the two attachments they will.  gary/Joe - maybe because they are pdf files?????????

RE:M-H Tanks/Racine

Hi John,

Oklahoma is a big state where might it be located??  Never know when the need arises to travel to Okkie!!  And the usual question --- how do we know it is a Massey unit!?!?!?

I was able to see the pics.  Interesting that they appeared by name!!

RE:M-H Tanks/Racine

Gary,

My friend says that on the museum information plate it states that it is an M-H machine.  He is going back sometime to see if he can find a manufactur's plate.

One thing I am not sure of is whether only MH made these howitzers or were they also made by Cadillac like the tanks.  If it was only M-H then identification would be positively MH - but the museum says so!

I have asked him about the location of this msueum and will let you know in due course.  He is an English guy married to an American lady so as usual it's the British ferreting away in the US!!!!!!  I have my maffia out there.

RE:M-H Tanks/Racine

So John,   You're saying that you're the Godfather of the Massey Mafia?

Steve

RE:M-H Tanks/Racine

No Steve - not the Godfather!!  Maybe an elder brother?  I think the Godfather title should go to KO??

RE:M-H Tanks/Racine

The museum is in Oklahoma City.  Just google Oklahoma City Military Museum and you can find ther web site.  I've driven past it but have never stopped there.  I have a sister in Oklahoma City.

RE:M-H Tanks/Racine

My friend has come back to me saying that the museum is just north of OK  city off the interstate between I44 and I35.  The specific address is 2145 NE 36th street.
