RE:British Wallis

The British Wallis tractor was built only 35 miles from me in Lincoln by Ruston and Hornsby Limited who were well known manufacturers of steam and oil engines together with other farm machinery which they sent all over the world.

I have just added some items to my collection from the family of an old employee who worked in the tractor department at the time of The British Wallis being manufactured.

The well cared for and polished wooden box with the British Wallis tractor decal on the lid was used for keeping his draughtsmans tools all together on his desk.
Also inside was his Ruston Hornsby 25 years service pin badge and tool check used within the factory.

This cast iron tool box lid, front wheel hub caps and a pair of front steel wheels are the parts I have gathered together for a British Wallis tractor. You never know when the next parts may just turn up.

RE:British Wallis

Malcolm, Do any of the US Wallis parts fit the Britsh Wallis? If they did it would speed up the job of finding the parts to put one together.

RE:British Wallis

I went through the parts list and other info Malcolm copied for me a few years ago and there are many of the internal parts like gears and that stuff with the same part number. I dont know for sure if they are really the same but there is many part numbers the same between the K and British Wallis.

RE:British Wallis

Yes Tom is correct there are some parts which refernce the same on both tractors, I do believe there are more parts that are unique to the British tractor, some of these are cylinder block, manifolds, carburetor, water pump, oil pump and suction filter, radiator, fuel tanks, aircleaner, front cranking handle, drawbar, rear brakes on the back axles, fenders, seat, rear wheels have heavier spokes, oil filter housing in U frame and more.

Despite this I know of one tractor which has come into Northern England from New Zealand in recent years, it had been built up there using many "K" parts, I had photographs of it long before it was destined for England and the entire water pump and magneto drive from the timing cover was of  K origin.

RE:British Wallis

Recently I have been given more old photographs from the family of the old employee at Ruston Hornsby in Lincoln who was involved with the British Wallis tractor production.

This first photo is from three used to evaluate the US Wallis "K", interesting to see they are date stamped as received September 5th 1919.

After evaluation of the US built Wallis "K" here is a lovely works photo of what the team in Lincoln came up with and the birth of "The British Wallis".

RE:British Wallis

One of the significant changes to design was the fitting of the British Haliday vaporiser to burn kerosene fuel, attached are the drawings for the complex vaporiser and carburettor used on all British Wallis tractors and also fitted to original import Wallis Cub Juniors working in England.
