RE:MH 744D history

Hi all, back again. I've taken advantage of the mild summer we have had down under. Here is the latest project finished today. You will find the "as found" pics earlier in the thread. Hopefully I will finish the 30k this weekend.

RE:MH 744D history

Very nice!  Some day, some how, I hope to add a 744 or 745 to my collection!

Thanks for sharing.

RE:MH 744D history

Buck,

Thanks for sharing. They look nice tractors.

Did you have many half track 744's over there?

I have a price pencilled in on a price list but I have never seen one although there are stories of one that could be around but no one knows where.

Alan

RE:MH 744D history

Hi Alan,

I have seen one, however in don't know if it was original.  There are a lot of Fordson 1/2 tracks over here and I suggest that it would be an easy conversion to use the same equipment to make a 1/2 track 744, but there may be someone with a bit more knowledge out there somewhere.  If I saw a wrecked Fordson, I would be tempted.

Regards Buck

RE:MH 744D history

Hi Buck,

I have heard rumours of a 744 Half Track arounds these parts in Norfolk but didn't know anymore about it than that.

Now Bob Parke tells me this tractor will be at our local show at Marsham in August. What a find. I will take some photos of it and post them on here or better still why don't you jump on a plane and come and see it for yourself.

Regards

Alan

RE:MH 744D history

Hi Alan,

i would love love to come and see the collection, but until I get rid of 1 son out of private school, I am stuck in Aus.  I would love to come over and see all the other Massey collectors.  Until then, I would love to see the pictures.

Regards Buck

RE:MH 744D history

Hi Buck,

We would all love to meet up with you.

Looking forward to seeing this half Track.

Keep posting the photos from Aus.

Alan

RE:MH 744D history

Hi John, I have just come across a 744 in very original condition. S/N 4219. It has the later model small cut out on the bonnet side panels, but it definitely has Massey Ferguson original decals  along the side of the panels , just in front of the 744d decals. Not Massey Harris as you would expect.. I have never seen one with Massey Ferguson decals. Has anyone come across this in your travels?  Is this one I should be looking at acquiring as I already have 3 others. I wish I could attach photos, but there is a problem with iPad photos at the moment. Thanks and Regards Buck.

RE:MH 744D history

Buck,

According to the company records that I have that is a 1950 tractor so well before the MH and Ferguson merger of 1953.

I can only surmsie that at some point in time the tractor has been taken back into a dealer for "refurbishment" and they have added the Massey Ferguson decals.

I have a very late green Challenger which is red!  And the red looks original so I have again surmised that they had a few left at the end of the serial number run and painted it red to get rid of it alongside the new red ones.

All conjecture!!!!   ................. Keep the stories coming

Happy New Year down there
John
